Interesting question though...Do ghosts believe in God? With enough spirits in me I've been known to pray too...And I have known many a priest that believes in spirits too...both sorts. In fact I'm pouring as I speak....gentlemen.....the regiment...Now one for the queen then to bed...

 

I think its easy to beleive God is/was a scientist...he wouldnt create a universe he would have to control 24/7...He would create a self sustaining Universe...a system whereby things take care of themselves and everything unfolds according to a few simple laws...Scientists can still scarcely beleive the simplicity yet complexity of the Universe...it DOES "smell" of an intelligent mind...But who created this is probably the last question...HOW is what we need to understand. (Another win for the Hadrian collider!)already too. Scientists are even on their way to explaining ghosts, preminitions, de ja vu etc etc...The Quantum Hologram! Based from memory on the idea that everything exists in wave form aswell as particle form...we die, our particle self disolves...but what happens to our wave selves (no less real)? Remember the idiom: "Energy never dies, it just changes form". Of course we are a long way from confirming any such thing.

God, (apparently), 'communicates' with people. I have heard all sorts of people claim to be able to talk to God. Bunkum! If this is the case, why does God talk ONLY to individuals, never in groups. The recent Opening Ceremony of the London Olympic Games has provided the ideal forum for God to finally appear before a massed audience. I mean, the coverage will automatically switch from the function itself to the entity. Yep, ideal opportunity to appear before the collective majority and end the speculation once and for all.

It didn't happen because God is a figment in the individual and collective imaginations of every believer. Funny how it is that when people tagged as mentally unbalanced claim to hear voices, or a voice, they are maligned as 'carzy' or 'delusional'. But when the average Churchgoer makes exactly the same claim, people smile and say "There there, what a good boy you are..."

Reading about this kind of stuff for 37 yrs... Here's where we must change our perspective. In order for us to expect the 3rd world to evolve- Human Rights- we have to drop our religious tendencies. We can see it happening where the US has been removing religion from its' courthouses, schools, Christmas...... Ghosts have been reported throughout history in all societies. We don't know what the phenomenon is. So we call it ghosts. Wether it's something when our brains are triggered via some environmental, emotional, chemical stimulus or they are actually dead people in another dimension that some people are able to perceive....God surely is not a grey bearded man tallying our good and bad deeds. But, I think, an actual law that governs our 3 dimensional existence. Karma is an example.Yin and Yang eh..If we cannot agree that there are more than 3 dimensions then the point is moot. Ooh. Also if anyone has ever been devastated by death or sickness, you pray pretty effin fast. To God. The old God that miraculously will save you or the one you love... Just wait and see. It happens to everyone.

 

Volga you might want to watch the way you speak of others beliefs, its obvious that some people on this forum hold to their religion as strong as you (and I) hold to non-belief (on a side note, I really wish non-belief was the norm so we wouldn't have to 'hold' to it), and being vitriolic and ranty does absolutely nothing to promote a logical discussion of such things, but rather serves the only purpose of pissing them off and forcing them away from seeing the rational base in your points.

Volga...You are being victim to your own arguement. You "beleive" what you say is true, yet can you prove that God does not exist? In any form? NO. God wouldnt strike you down because A. He beleives in free thought and action (its later you pay B. He is forgiveness personified. C. He is not an interventionist. Almost all philosophers will tell you that if God didnt exist..we would invent him anyway. I am dubious of anyone pretending to know what God would do or say...like wise im dubious of people who proport to know he/it doesnt exist. I think you are getting GOD and religion (a man made machine designed for controlling a populace) mixed up.

 

That is a statement of belief just as much as the opposing statement. In some ways it's even less defenceable as it would seem to include many if not all defintions of "god"

That is one possiblity but certainly not the only one. For instance:
1) He might be totally unaware of your existance.
2) He might not care about you or for that matter humanity at all.
3) As another has stated he might want you to exercise "free will".
4) Your stating so may actually be serving his purpose(s).
Other possibilities exist. You may even be correct.

 

I always figured that I was not smart enough to understand God. I have now realized that would also apply to No God.

Who hasn't thought about God?..We all try to figure it out, and never get a satisfactory answer.. Especially when we hurt.

There is some fascinating, quality research and subsequent opinions on the origins of God...where we began to create art representing the female- fertility and the BULL...male....but male as untamed, strong and unpredicatble like nature...this began the idea of man as something more than animal...and the idea of a "power" controlling everything. Not well explained by me as usual...but i recommend people look into it...fascinating stuff.
And hurt can be seen in its full context...Yin and Yang...one must feel pain to "know" what pleasure is. Not matter how "nice" or "powerful" or "forgiving" you think God is...he will allow pain and suffering to allow for the opposite....deep stuff Pop!
