The town is Barra de Navidad and it's mostly Mexican tourists, and for some reason most of the gringos who do come are Alaskans and western Canadians. A friend from Juneau told me about this place many years ago because we were talking about Saint Patrick's day. He told me about a town called San Patricio (adjacent to Barra) where they have the wildest Saint Paddies day party anywhere. It's true, though they aren't celebrating the saint as much as they are celebrating the San Patricio Battalion - Irishmen who left the US army to fight on the Mexican side during that war. Some of them got land grants here and named the town. It's a great friendly drunken party in the plaza with a dangerous amount of fireworks erupting over and in the crowd.

Yeah, Piper's is a blues bar that caters to gringos. A few buildings down is a rock n' roll bar for surfers - mostly Mexican surfers, but some gringos also - other than that, it's a place for people to escape Mexico City for a few days.

Although I do understand your view I couldn't resist commenting your comment. AFAIK there're quite a few referrals to God (="Allah") in your laws...

I'm Canadian. Check again...If you could find a reference to a criminal law here that mentions god- would like to see it. ..Even if you could, is it possible to compare any of our laws to the savagery that exists yonder? Stoning, limb for limb, maiming. ..Really?

Maybe you need to check Egyptian laws again..... really.

Or should we lump you Canadians together with Columbia, Venezuela, the US, and Cuba, while spouting negative generalisations and stereotypes?

This year as last I will be in Sharm for my holidays, we were there last year at the height of the troubles. I took my kids. Me and the boy agreed as long as we got covering fire from the plane to the terminal we'd go. As a student of the military a few MG posts and APC's made it better not worse and we still ventured into town and found the locals very friendly and accomodating.

As we said in the Blitz, "business as usual"
As we say now "these colours don't run".

Canada's Constitution states that laws must conform to God's laws. Also in Section 296 of the criminal code it is an offence to blaspheme against God, Jesus Christ, Holy Ghost, Bible or Christianity. Before each sitting in the House of Commons there is a prayer to bless proceedings.

I have heard many ladies who have lived in the British sections of Cairo that swear they are safer there than in any U.S. or British city they have also had the experience of living in. It is all where you may wish to hang out. I have known people that choose to live there in their retirement. A policeman there is armed with AK-47 and quite willing to use it quickly......the ladies that spend time there rely on that security and express confidence in the local law and order of the section they live in, in that special part of Cairo. They know going to other areas does present an increase in risk so they avoid those areas as much as possible. We do the same thing here in our big cities don't we? Despite our pride in our own culture......we cannot guarrantee our foreign friends will not run into "Westboro's " or their likes somewhere in our own neighborhoods. We have to use some vigilante groups to sometimes form a barrier so our troops can be buried in peace in our own country. I enjoy many freedoms here that I am very thankful for but am careful not to make them an issue of pride before others as there is the flip side that can also be true that we must all admit to as well.

My cousin used to be based in the British Embassy in Cairo, and she said the same thing. All the facilities- like the mixed swimming pool- were behind a 12 foot wall so as not to offend the locals.

    Sorry, my bad...

Was thinking more of the USA...
Don't think there are many countries with such laws, except of course Saudi-Arabia (an US ally), Iran and Yemen.

He's talking about imposed laws based on God, as in Muslim nations. The usual anti-American propaganda.

In the Saudi-Arabia? No, but surely there are such laws, since people are sentenced according to them.

In the USA? No, but AFAIK there are e.g. laws against blasphemy. Am not sure, whether they are federal or local.
