How on earth did last night's team win? More luck than judgement, the standard of generalship and communication was the worst yet. As to the tactic of a diagonal attack across the face of the enemy.... By the way, which one is best - Rome or medieval total war? I haven't played any pc wargames outside of WWII era but might give one of them a try. For Eddie Mair fans you can hear his dry wit on BBC radio 4's PM programme 1700 - 1800 uk time.
You missed Arek on his knees clutching the barriers saying 'talk to the rest of your team....PLEASE!!!!!' There were very few left standing at the end of the battle
Awwwww... I would have wanted to see that!  Judging the graphics off of Time Commanders itself, I'd say RTW is much better looking than MTW. If you have an option go for the former.
Ohhh, easy win for the English, if they play it right. Tough win for the Normans, if they play it right. Sadly, myth & propaganda has ruined the truth here... (I wrote a 7,000 word essay on the Battle of Hastings )
If this battle of Hastings is anything like the scenario for Hastings in MTW, then the Normans should be overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of the English quickly. I don't know what historically happened here?
In a nutshell... Both armies (approximately equally sized, around 5,000 - 7,000 each maybe, and equally well armed, armoured, trained & experienced) arrive 'on the field' and rush for the top of a hill (possibly Senlac Hill). English get there first and repel the Norman army. Norman army (in 3 blocks of 'Breton', 'Norman' and 'French') attacks, but fails to break the shield wall. Norman troops start to run, English counter-attack, but William rallies his forces and (probably) Gyrth & Leofwine (King Harold's brothers) are killed, halting the English advance. Norman army continues to try, and continues to fail, to break the shield wall. Norman Army makes one last push - 5 Norman knights form a 'hit squad' and go after Harold. They succeed, Harold is killed, and the battle won. English housecarls (harold's bodyguard) make a final stand around the body of their chief, and a band of English reinforcements slaughter some Normans who were chasing routed English troops.
I did not see it, but I did read an interview with them. Basically - better than most, but still buying into too much Norman Propaganda.
It was another fantastic case of know how to start but not knowing how to finish. To use Patton's famous quote, they knew how to grab them by the nose, but they failed to kick them in the nuts. I would really have wanted to be with Ricky when I watched this.
The medieval weapons expert was getting a bit excited (i noticed Arek was keeping his distance when the sword and spear were being thrust around) but from what i've seen of him on other programmes, thats just normal. The guy who had been in the Signals previosuly looked spaced out for most of the episode and was most pissed off when told he hadn't killed Harold - definatly not one to give sharp point objects.
