    Hi

I am trying to research my granddad, but not sure where to start as only have some basic information and don't have his service number

Below I will put what I know - hopefully someone can advise:-

    Name: Cecil Thomas Smith
    Home: Norfolk
    Date Of Birth: 04/02/1916
Date Of Death: 21/05/1964 (Age 48) - Norwich, Norfolk

Have several photos of him from the war period, one of sent home at Christmas 1940, one showing him in Class 128 - HMS Royal Arthur, and one which has RNAS Donibristle 1943 written on back, and finally one with 4 men in uniform from 1941

I will attach photos below in case they help

You might want to post this at our sister site ww2talk.com. They have a more UK oriented bent and are likely to be more help.. That said, you might consider getting his records here Get a copy of military service records

Hi, got initial reply from Royal Navy - Navy Command and they have give me a photocopy of his CRC (Central Record Card) and said that further research can take longer - anything up to 12 months, but they will be in touch when looked through P&V ledgers

I have attached what they sent me in case anyone here can tell me anything useful from what it tells us?

    Hi All

Finally got a reply from Navy Command and they have sent me the information I have attached

Most of it I can read and make sense of, but if anyone can add anything useful to it who knows more - or tell me what bits I have highlighted in yellow say or mean I would be most grateful

    Thanks
