I think that one of the things that would have made the bombs more dangerous in use against Overlord would be the ability to properly correct their fire. As stated, the missiles were ballistic and crude in guidance. Continental targets would be easier to get reports on the impact points, and the future missiles would be more on target. This could have been used against some of the buildup in Normandy or the port in Calais and would have been damaging but I don't think it would have been decisive. It certainly would have called for a shift of resources so there would have been repurcussions but . . .

The ground base V1 were on launch tracks "aimed" at London & Sth East England. Normandy would be about 90deg South of their alignment.

Some V1 were launched from He111, suffered heavy losses.

But what would they be aimed at, and would this be any heavier than the Arty that was directed at the Beachead.

Plus the lack of accuracy could see them land at Sea or on the German frontline (And maybe blow over a Tiger!)

Ali, I would agree that the landing beaches would have been an impossibly small target. The mustering areas and the port facilities would have been sufficiently large enough to be hit. Maybe even the supply depots or the floating port facilities, although nature destroyed most of them without German help.

Never read on that before but some months ago I read a book by a Finnish officer on Overlord
( 1948 ) and what should be learned about it. One thing was that the Germans actually started answering the ships´ fire and did not shoot at the troops on the beaches as much as they could, i.e. those pieces of artillery that where left to do so (??). Just wondering if anyone got more info on this?

Just aiming the things at the areas of beaches where the supplies were coming in would be enough, as well as the artificial harbours. Just slowing down the invasion would do more to the German campaign than bombing London. Also more bombs would reach its target than against London I think.
