Have just finished abook named "chased by the sun " by Hank Nelson its about Australians who volunteered joining the RAAF and fighting in the UK for Bomber Command losing around 4,050 airmen alone in this conflict
That's a coincidence greg - I've very recently bought a copy of 'Chased By The Sun' and I'm just about to start reading it.....
Blitz by M.J. Gaskin about December 29, 1940. It is the ongoing story of the personal experiences of those battling the inferno in the 'square mile' of the City of London, others reporting it, those living with the consequences, all interspersed with historical information including speeches and correspondence of key figures of WWII. It held me riveted as I read - not just a recitation of statistics but drew me in completely to be there, worrying about the individuals who were so heroic, and so sad for those who were hurt and killed.

Ivan's War: The Red Army, 1939-45 By Catherine Merridale Interesting how this book comes across, it shows how poor the Soviet Army was in and yet it managed to halt AGC before Moscow which tells us the Great German Army was not as Great as it seemed. The book tells the story about the ordinary Russian soldier and how by some almighty will power in the most dreadful conditions of the first 18 months of the war fought against and stopped Hitler's dreams in the east. "Essential reading, not just for those interested in the Eastern Front, but for anyone who wants to understand Russia." Antony Beevor, author of Stalingrad
Just finishing Manfred Griehl: Do 217-Do 317-Do 417 Starting: Ralf Georg Reuth: Rommel the end of a legend
I know they are probably mentioned somewhere in the previous 48 pages of this thread, but as a newcomer to WW2 in-depth reading, I just finished An Army at Dawn, and I'm in the middle of The Day of Battle by Rick Atkinson. I'm getting quite the education about the conflict.
Ordered new books: Amazon.com: Messerschmitt BF 110: Bombsights over England Erprobungsgruppe 210: John Vasco, John Vaaco: Books Bloody Streets: The Soviet Assault on Berlin, April 1945 - Hamilton, A. Kai you will find the first book interesting from the fact of it's records in the back of the book and many pics especially of the Ju 88C-6's operating over the Biscay Bay. Sadly my viewpoint here now : not much on the bomber destroyer Gruppe II./ZG 1 in the way of pics or text, though the flight logs and history for the unit could be de-funct lost which is very disappointing .... Just finished... Hitler's War on Russia By Charles D. Winchester Not bad short book for those who just want a good overview or as your first book. Along with the text there are tables on line ups on the front and production tables as well, the author or so tells how poor German logistics were like there truck production and so on. Taking a short break to read a couple of non WW2 Essential Histories on the Falklands war 1982 and The Collapse of Yugoslavia 1991-1999. After then straight back to WW2 and this book I have been looking forward to reading... The Wages of Destruction By Adam Tooze Take me a few months this one, looks good.
Estonian colleague gave me this book: Itching for Eestimaa: eesti leegion Janis Roze bookstore - Eesti leegion Eesti Leegion is a collection of never-before-seen photographs of both those drafted into service in 1944 as well as the batches of volunteers who joined the German Army of their own accord to fight the Soviets in the years 1941-43.
