Binge-watched a bunch of Supernatural episodes from Season 5 that I hadn't seen before. Long day at work, so I needed some "fluff" to relax last night.

If you want to grab highest resolution possible Youtube videos for use on very large TV Screens.
The free ClipGrab app is a very good, quick tool for this purpose.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. It was on TCM last night and even though I own the DVD, I had to watch it. It's one of my absolute favorites.

Inglorious Basterds. First time to watch it. I'm not a big fan of Quentin Tarantino films, and this one was just ....meh.

Like pretty much all Tarentino films it has moment's, but he too often can not resist going one (or two) steps too far.

Two classic Christmas movies from the 1940s: Christmas in Connecticut and It Happened on 5th Avenue.

Classic's indeed, though Usually be the second week of December I'm burnt out from X-mas programming. Half way though X-files season 5, gonna be close to finish the series before the new miniseries.

I've been trying to space out the Christmas movies so I don't get burned out. Tonight I plan to watch The Bishop's Wife, my all-time favorite classic Christmas movie.

Slightly OT, but what I DID watch in late 1944 was I think the first film i ever saw.

    'The Fighting Lady'.

I would have been about 5 years and 6 months old.

I have been watching the Apocalypse: World War I (2014). It is a colorized WWI documentary with authentic footage. It's good but it's mostly about the events in France and Belgium.

Just watched World war II: Stalingrad. On Amazon. The quality is poor, considering the screen is much smaller because it was not properly formated. Kinda made it tough to watch. 45 min run time. Nothing much to note, simple review.

Bought the new version of Polish 1944 Warsaw uprising film. Interesting to see if they can come up with something new about it.

Done in Poland 2014 and directed by Jan Komasa feat Józef Pawlowski ja Zofia Wichlacz.

    ---------

A movie released probably early next year:

Movie about Estonian people in 1944 fighting against the Red Army with units that have Estonian people on the Soviet side.

name of the film is 1944, directed by Elmo Nüganen, and feat Marko Leht ja Maiken Schmidt.

the battles were fierce wit huge losses on both sides.

    I think this is it...

For New Year's Eve, my daughter and I watched all three Star Wars movies - Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Return of the Jedi. We also went to see the new movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Wednesday. Very good.

I've always loved these movies and grew up with them. My brother had a bunch of the toys - the X-Wing fighter, the Death Star, all the cool little figures, etc. Good memories.

I too went to see the new Star Wars. On balance I enjoyed the film and the X-wing/ TIE fighter sequences are spectacular, often better than the Lucas film's.

    But,

The first third of the film are devoted to the new hero's and villain's. Harrison Ford does not appear till this point, Carrie Fisher till about half way and Mark Hammil till almost the final credits. There was far too much recycling of material from earlier films, especially the original Star Wars, and as with his Star Trek reboot you have to overlook black hole sized science errors and short cuts that when you ponder them you realize they are woppers.

Agreed. I am not sure JJ Abrams was the right person for this project. But guess it's far too late to worry about that now! ;)

Try a fan edit called "The Dark Mantle" for the prequels. It is a pretty clever approach to "correcting" the terrible script and wooden acting of episodes 1-2-3 if you don't mind subtitles.

I have been watching a bunch of WWII movies my uncle left behind when he died in November. On of those 20 packs. The transfer from film to dvd is muddy, but it's a chance to see them without having to dish out a penny.

"Battle For Blood Island" more a bizarre 1960s psychological thriller than a war movie.
"Commandos" (Lee Van Cleef) pretty bad Italian movie on a par with the Steve Reeves Hercules films.

I also found a copy of "Against The Sun" about three guys whose bomber crashes in the Pacific a few months after Pearl Harbor and have to survive on a rubber life raft.
