Just clicked on "Joe Kidd: in time to see him mow down a bunch of banditos with a C-96.

Good movie. If I remember right Robert Duvall's character has a nice Savage 99

Just watched "Grumpy Old Men", followed by "Grumpier Old Men". This is one of the few instances where the sequel is just as good as the original, imho of course.

My two latest films are both from Finland.

First the "Promise" (Lapaus) from 2005 that takes place over both the winter war and the continuation war and is about Lotta Svärd the Finnish voluntary auxiliary paramilitary organisation for women. Normally I like Finnish films but this one was not very good. The "flow" was poor and to some degree it was like watching several short episodes linked together.

The second Finnish movie I recently watched was "Silence" (Hiljaisuus) from 2011. This film takes place during the continuation war and is about a team that fetch corpses and prepare them for return to their homes. It is not one of the better films but still interesting in that it shows a side of the war normally not covered in war films.

Just watched "Sons of Liberty", all three parts. It is a fictionalized drama about events leading up to the American Revolution, it is entertaining, and interesting. Overall, the story is accurate, but some events have been dramatized and are not 100% correct in detail. It is however a good mini-series and NOT a documentary so this is acceptable. IMHO, the best portrayal of George Washington to date. The actor, Jason O'Mara, an Irishman, looks the part and acts the part. In most depictions Washington is either lacking in physical presence or the actor fails to project his force of character.

I tried to watch it, but found the 'Pearl Harboring' of the history jarring to my taste.

I recently re-watched "The Good, the Bad, and the Weird." It's a silly but quite fun Korean made action film set in Manchuria in the 1930s.
As far as WW2 films I'd really recommend the Korean film "My Way" to anyone who hasn't seen it. It's based on the true story of a Korean soldier who ended up serving in the Japanese, Soviet, and German militaries over the course of the war and is really well done I feel.

Thanks for the suggestion, "My Way" I have watched, and it is indeed a good one, but my next film to watch will be "The Good, the Bad, and the Weird", a film I already have in my collection.

Is Paris Burning?

Been at least thirty years since I watched it and I don't think I was paying attention the last time.

Very very good so far

Has Gert Frobe played every rank of German in both wars during his career? He's a general in this one and very good. Not over the top

I remember watching Magnum Force at a drive in with my father as a kidlet. Possibly the first time i saw titties, which was awkward.
Really enjoyed the movie then. Time has not been so nice, it is a B movie at best now.
..Very much enjoyed most of the Planet Of The Apes, Godzilla, the disaster movies etc. I was a kid, and Hollywood put out low IQ movies then, very much like now.
Die hollywood. Welcome your computer masters and sex robots.

While i'm here, the hypocrisy of hollywood is thick. They hate guns but most of the movies have guns or violence.
BLM.
dicapreo and the other idiots live large. Big foot prints. They shoot a lot of guns and act tough in the movies. Contrary to their off screen puppy loving twisted individuals. Freaks.

I watched a lot of westerns as a kid so that's why I love the old Hollywood movies. The new ones are rubbish if you ask me.

There are good and bad. Also it depends on what you call NEW. Watched "Quigley Down Under" last week (for 3rd or 4th time?) and love it. Same director did "Lonesome Dove". Great western. He also directed the re-make of "Monte Walsh" for tv. "Open Range" was very good. "Unforgiven".

On the other side of the fence there are some turds. Especially the comedies. Deadwood was awful.

There is yet another remake of "The Magnificent Seven" coming out this summer. Not sure how I feel about Denzel Washington in this. Superb actor, but...

Just rewatched "The Pacific" for the 4th or 5th time. This time I roped in my wife. She is a fan of "Band of Brothers". I was curious to hear what she thought. She didn't like it as much as BoB, or much at all really. In that she seems to be in the majority. Most people are not interested in repeat viewing. For myself, I saw so much this time that I had not yet seen in my previous viewings. There are subtleties in this series that I really love. The cast are extraordinary, especially Rami Malek as Snafu. What a performance! I've read the source material. Memoirs of Leckie and Sledge as well as the book by Hugh Ambrose. Very authentic.

I have lately been watching three films related to the Finnish Civil War that took place between 27th January and 15th May 1918. There were about 37,000 fatalities during this short civil war, which split the population in "Whites" and "Reds".

The films are: 1) Tears of April (Käsky) from 2008; 2) The Border (Raja 1918) from 2007: and 3) Under the North Star (Täällä Pohjantähden alla), a two-parts mini-series, from 2009 and 2010 respectively.

They are good movies and worth watching albeit not greate ones.

My recent fascination with Hiroshima saw me cross paths with this;

Real life events staged in Enola Gay: The Men, the Mission and the Atomic Bomb (1980 TV Movie);
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXyUPYPwWbg

Starring Billy Crystal in a serious role, for a change.

.. I liked it, then I liked it even more when at the end they went on to say how much of that was in fact real and what actually happened to them in real life.

Saints and soldiers- the void. Ok movie. Well made but nothing massive about the idea making it.
