I have seen them before at the flea market. Some of them the front slides forward to shade the lenses. Rich A. in Pa.

Hi Rich, The sunshades do slide forward. The leather covering is in good shape and the focus is very good. Low power ( I'm guessing about 6x) which will be perfect for hunting in the woods. I found references to Marchand and one said they either went out of business or stopped making bino's in 1890? The Objective lens is 50mm and the eyepiece is 25mm. I noticed on the case the top cover is wood with a thin leather covering. I assume the bottom and sides are the same. They appear to be around the turn of the Century, so may just sit on the shelf instead of taking out into the elements and actually using them much. What is interesting is there are no other markings to give me a hint as to how old they are or power. Just another of my "finds" that I liked what I saw and the $6.00 price was too good to pass up.

The backpack is the simplified M-40 Rucksack for artillery personnel to replace the M-39 infantry model which was too large and too heavy. It's a more compact and lighter version.

This is what I came home with this weekend! It's a suriviving copy of a genuine Germany annexed Alsacian war time farmer calendar with special swastika with sword and wheat. It has some amazing pictures and the names on the calendar are just inccredible. They are mostly medieval Wagnarian names. Check the what happened today section , it's quite hilarious and would be totlally impossible nowadays.

This simple chain of medals without their ribbons...

It is a bit heavy for the wrist but I guess he might have put them on the wall. Or a key chain? Sometimes there are pretty weird things made out of medals etc.
These are starting with Winter War medal, Freedom medals for 1939 and 1941, and Continuation War medal.

You're quite right, Skipper : I just checked - my 2012 desk diary totally omits any mention of Rudolf Hess' birthday.......:p
