Fun Trek fact - In Roddenberry's original series concept...The starship was USS Yorktown.

That's not the way I heard it ole chap. That dastardly Washington fellow snuck into Lord Cornwallis' headquarters whilst he was conferring with General O'Hara about a plan to break the siege. As Washington entered the room where Cornwallis and O'Hara were conferring, intently, over a map, he upset something or another and made a noise. Cornwallis not looking up, said, "lad, my swords over by the fireplace, take it and have it sharpened. I'll have need of it tomorrow when we attack these ungrateful colonists."
Washington took the sword and fled back to the rebel lines, showed it to les généraux français and claimed Cornwallis had surrendered. Cornwallis not wanting to have his honor questioned for going back on his word could do nothing but summon his ships and sail for England.
...and that's the rest of the story.
