Hmmm... a play-by-play thread? Just to keep this on a forum topic... Who won the World Series in 1942 (during WW2), and who was the MVP for the Cardinals that year? Who won the World Series in 1943 (during WW2), and who was the MVP for the Cardinals that year? Who won the World Series in 1944 (during WW2), and who was the MVP for the Cardinals that year?
@luketdrifter - I think you have it backwards... It seems that, due to economic concerns, they have cancelled Detroit! Not just the team, the whole frickin' city! ACK!
When I was at Purdue I had a prof. from there. He used to say, "I'm from Detroit! We kill each other for parking places!"
Isn't that the Detroit city motto, OpanaPointer? Funny you thinking the the series was cancelled after Detroit lost, luketdrifter, most of the Cubs fans around here never even realized baseball is still played past September. Did I understand correcty that a couple of NFL teams played in England over the weekend? Maybe I can get the Cardinals to come play in that stadium near you, Colonel Fog. I better just skip the favorite position, playerwise that is, question. Add that to the desperate and available rumor and I can just see heading downhill quickly. Steve - kudos to your would-be Cardinals uncles. You are right about the timing, kind of sad to think of what they might have been offered for their talent later on. And a salute to your uncle who served and died in WWII. (I don't know if you other uncle served, a salute to him as well, if he did.)
That was quite a game six Cards fans, I don't see how the deciding game seven in St. Louie could possibly be more intense. Here's hoping they pull it off, been some time since a team came from that far back to win the Series though, but best of luck to the Cardinals.
I actually saw a clip of the 1944 World Series this morning on the news.....I think it might have been a good omen.
Time for a Rum & Coke! Toast to ya' all ! Clementine, tell your Dad the first is for him. sorry gunbunny but it really was a foregone conclusion wasn't it?!
WE DID IT !! The best game I ever saw was game 6.... This group is a textbook example of how you play as a team !! Clementine, thanks for your kind words. Yes, the other uncle was his catcher and he too served in WW 2 with the 17th AB.
Bless my dad's heart, he knows I "talk" to people on this thing called the Internet, but I am not really sure that he's clear on how it all works - but I told him and he said, "Well, that's pretty nice." I knew when I saw that clip of the '44 series the day of game seven that it was in the bag..... Way to go Cardinals!
Last night we had our Halloween Campfire Howl at the Endangered Wolf Center. I started off with the following: What do wolves in Canada like to eat? Moose! What do wolves in Yellowstone like to eat? Elk! What do wolves in St. Louis like to eat? Texas Rangers!
Clementine, are you anywhere near St. Louis? I could take you on a tour of the Center if you're in town. Any time except breeding season, we keep a low profile in March and April. If any of you Rogues are in the area, let me know in advance and we'll see some wolves.
