To answer a few questions , as some of you know i have been involved in quite a bit of Battlefield Archaeology on the Eastern Front in particular Stalingrad and Narva.

    1) Yes many people are involved in BA , digging or call it what you will in Russia particulary around Stalingrad many things are still there to be found and allegedly far out in the Kalmuk steppe are still Tank wrecks etc but remember as in Western Europe most things metal were traded in for scrap many years ago even Tanks and aircraft.

    2) Munitions and scrap removal has been going on in Normandy since before the end of the war but things can still be found.

    3) Diving and recovery of wrecks particulary off Omaha where so many were lost has also gone on for years , many of the recovered vehicles are kept at the fantastic wrecks museum near Port en Bessin.

    4) Difficult to say some areas have been well dredged and others will no doubt still contain many relics under the water , the diving of lakes , shellholes etc certainly goes on in Eastern Europe to recover relics as the T34 from Johvi and other examples show.

    cheers

    Paul
