Newspapers are simply the propaganda organs of various political parties. Most of them are heavily slanted to the left, leaving the ones slanted to the right as looking out of the mainstream. Luckily, the Internet frees of us of all of that. We can seek out the truth and make up our own minds.
The reverse applies in the UK. Most papers are right wing and the bulk are nothing more that televison guides for the owners TV Channels. After bruising episodes in the 1990's the owners agreed not to attack each other and thus today they never run news features on each others corruption. Murdoch stands out as the most corrupt and manipulative. He is in a class of his own and has infected 3 continents with his filth.
I regularly peruse the British papers online. Even a paper like the Telegraph which is considered right wing in the UK, would be considered far left in the US. Your conservative party is embracing climate change policies, which is considered something of the wacky left in this country. I suppose it's all a matter of perspective.
Yep, our right these days is especially the coalition right is more like your Clinton. The right in the commons though, the rabid right still exist...As do the rabid left. The only left of centre paper in England though is the Daily Mirror. The Independant after changing hands is more not independant...not if in same home as Evening standard, the Mail speaks for itself..the Express is a Diana and weather reporting excuse for a paper, but right of centre, the Telegraph is currently the Torygraph mouthpiece, receiving all party leaks before the rest get them. Sun is a comic but a right wing comic, Guardian presents itself as a Liberal organ, our liberal not yours, But seems to be the intellectual Islington daily paper which although goes left, never right, stays liberal and as usual intellectuals know the questions, unfortunately living in the real world is too much for some. Times tries bless it, but definately still and always right of centre. Daily Star has some good porn I believe, but still right of centre in its editorials, the magazines are obvious in their leanings...The Economist is generally none political but light on real news, Financial Times, is actually about the best none political daily and its articles and news are usually worthy of independant thinking. We then have the spectator and a few others, one left one right, but in general the press here is predominintly right of centre and always has been. Of course the centre line as you see from abroad...here moves constantly...And then we have the morning star...bless it...But a minority daily, than many won't stock anyway. I prefer the local evening papers, that still exist, purely for its localism and their politics usually have to bend both ways or not get the readers.
Whereas in Scotland, it's left wing and supports the SNP! The Daily Record is the Scottish Labour mouthpiece and never pretends to be anything else, the Express and Mail are printed here but are still right-wing.
I took care not to mention the Scottish and Irish Press Gordon as I'm aware of the quality of some of the locally produced daily's there rather than the nationals. As always, Scotland and I believe Ireland should always be treated as their own entity in all matters. Linked by common aims but not subserviant as sometimes the case has been.
Forget global warming! The real problems for our future will manifest themselves in due course, once a billion Indians and another billion Chinese come to the inescapeable conclusion that there simply are not enough material resources on this earth for them all to live like Americans, even if we had the capacity to let them do so. Funny how both of these ancient nations were quite self satisfied to live as they had for centuries. Now, in the late twentieth and early twenty first centuries, these people suddenly decide that their manner of living is now inferior, and that without the trappings of Western civilization, they feel they cannot take their place among the worlds nations without changing this. Strange!
Just a quick question...off topic a little.... What happens to all of these threads in "The Stump"? Seems to me, once a thread is moved to here, it disappears, never to have eyes laid on it again. Why is this so? What happened to our excellent thread concerning OUR views of the JFK Assassination? And why, exactly, was a thrown into the cooler for expressing personal views when that was the topic....what we thought....???? If someone would like to restore this thread, I would be happy to reiterate the findings, based on other evidence I have gathered concerning the supposed guilt of Lee Harvey Oswald..... Is the Stump a form of site censorship?
Volga I think the Great Chinese Mineral wars of the 21st century have already begun, We just need to trace the routes of Chinese trade, engineering projects, army and navy bases being let and built all over Africa and South America and Indian Ocean. You were thrown into the cooler simply because you are you mate...No great conspiracy. It was your turn.
