My Dad - Hank the Tank Erickson -- died in April of 2004. He and my Mom had 15 kids (17 but lost two at birth -- one of whom "Son of.." was buried in the Long Island Military Cemetary in Farmingdale in 1985 - thereby securing my Dad "his place" - but that's another story) I've ended up with a lot of my Dad's papers and letters home and have just spent some time going through them all. He never talked about the war and I guess we never really pressed him on it -- but I am so humbled to read and learn more about what he - and so many others - did. And now I'm learing more about "The Liberators" -- he was proud to be among them! It was good to find this site -- so thanks everyone
Hello and welcome aboard. Your dad sounds like many others whom we've been introduced to (including my own) - reluctant to talk about what was probably the most meaningful activities of their lives. Personally, I've learned more about his service, as well as that of others, than I ever thought possible. I hope you find this site as informative as I have. Please share with us any information or questions about his service that you may have. Rest assured it will be treated with the utmost respect.
Hi, I've been working with the 14th AD veterans to bring online websites to cover the various units within the division. None of my veterans were in the 47th TB but they did have some history documents and other items that they have shared with me. I am seriously lacking in photos and other information though so if you could be so kind as to get in touch and we can see what we can do about making the 47th's website a fit memorial to the unit. 14th AD websites I've brought online so far (the 14th's website has been resurrected, I hope to give it a facelift eventually): http://14thad.org http://48thtankbattalion.org http://68thaib.org http://501stafa.org I also recently made a facebook page for the 14th: https://www.facebook.com/14thad/ *edited to fix the link to the 14th's website
Very good to see more websites with original documents & photos. Well done. BTW, your link for the 14thad.org website doesn't work.
I sent you a Dropbox link (thru the 14th AD website) to some files for the 68th AIB. Thanks for your efforts to revive these site, too many WWII unit websites are going offline. Steve
TD-Tommy776 - I see the forum added some "junk" to the link, it is simply: 14thad.org Steve, I received your files! Thank you! I see there is some real quality material there, I'll download and share with the veterans and add a good portion of it to the 68th's website as time allows. I'm also working on the 47th Tank Battalion and the 62nd AIB at the moment!
Welcome to the site. Looking forward to you sharing some info. Isn't that the truth! Hopefully we help out in some way.
Steve - I've added your files to the 68th's website. I left it as one big collection for now, just so I could get it posted and out there for others. Thanks again! Mikel
Mikel, Just sent you another Dropbox link for part of the 68th's Jan, 45, History Narrative. It covers from the 1st - 21st. I had forgotten I had this. The journal and maps look good posted. Steve
That can happen sometimes. I see you have fixed it so it's all good. Not sure if you have found this yet, but the Bangor Public Library has a digital copy of the unit history of the 125th Armored Engineer Battalion. Also, the Digital Archives at CARL has a copy of the AAR from Jan-Apr 1945 for the 84th Armored Medical Battalion.
Thanks to a veteran of the 62nd AIB letting me borrow all of his mementos I present, http://62ndaib.org Including their history book and an amazing video of the attack on Gemünden, enjoy
The 47 Tank Battalion is now online! http://47thtankbattalion.org I talked with a few daughter's of the 47th and it sounds like we'll have TONS of information on there soon!!
The above 47th Tk Bn link didn't work for me, this one did: http://47thtankbattalion.org/ Interesting to see photos from Rittershoffen, we had a popular thread on the battle at Hatten-Rittershoffen: http://www.ww2f.com/topic/3965-hatten-and-rittershoffen-january-1945/?hl=hatten-rittershoffen
Oh yeah, I was in a hurry and typo'd it Thanks I also added their full history book to the website, with a download to get your own copy. Other items are trickling in so check the page every now and then for updates!
