.....would be unimaginable for me ! ;)

Just starting to pack some things together for my holiday in Brittany next week, and as usual before a vacation had the great pleasure of going through my 'ATB' collection ( selecting copies # 33 - St Malo - and # 55, U-Boat Bases).

I've been buying these since the very first one in 1974 :)eek:) and it's fun looking at some of the rather battered ones which have travelled with me to places such as Normandy, the Ardennes, Arnhem, Crete, Munich, Obersalzburg, Alsace, etc etc

Founder Winston G Ramsey deserves a medal, IMHO.....

I'm afraid to admit that i've only ever bought a few editions of After The Battle.

That said, the ones I did buy had some fantastic and informative information in them.

My Ruchmarsch Then and Now book is my bible when i'm in Normandy.

We expect a full report as well as plenty of photos, on your return from Brittany, Martin. ;)

Couldn't agree more. I'm still oustanding on the last 12 or so issues, for various reasons, but hopefully that'll be rectified soon.

I have them all up to #100, but after that they've become a bit more 'specialised' so I have a few gaps......but certainly the first 50 are essential ! :)

I only have a few issues as well, but they are very useful in planning holidays!

one of the best for comparison fotos obviously but even some great general background information if covering a battle. the Battle of Crete article is still one of the best in my opinion as well as the Battles of Cassino

Same here, picked up titles that took my eye. Good series without question.

Must admit, I have purchased everything that people have been selling under the title from the local net auction site. I have been lucky as well as the prices have been pretty low.

Thanks, Lou - but over at another forum, some clever-with-a-computer guy gave me a chance of some action ....

SGT: 'OK - Everybody cover Martin - he's going in!'
CORPORAL: 'It's just amazing what some men will do for an ice-cream!'

Great pic, Martin. Give our compliments to the artiste.

Well, I'm glad to say that 'ATB' is still hanging in there.......

Obviously, the subject matter these days has to obey the law of diminishing returns which means that every issue isn't the essential purchase it was in times gone by, but today I bought the first issue ( #171 ) of 2016 ( with 'Americans Across The Moselle' on the cover ).

Of particular interest to me is an excellent article about 'Fuhrerhauptquartier 'Wehrwolf' by Martin Bogaert & Andrew Shvachko. Due to its location at Vinnitsa in the Ukraine, this has previously been the FhQ least well-known & researched in the West, although mentioned in nearly every book about Hitler and the Eastern Front. The 18-page article here puts that to rights with maps, diagrams and the usual excellent 'Then & Now' photos - many in 1940s as well as 21st Century colour.

ATB used to seem expensive but now at £5 looks pretty good value - a recommended purchase ! :salute:

I'm very happy you bumped this, Martin. That pic is priceless!

By the way, what issue of ATB are you carrying?

    Hi Tommy

    That's After The Battle # 33, 'St. Malo 1944'.

I'd forgotten how much fun I had finding that street and matching the pic......my Wife was convinced that I'd finally gone 'over the edge'...... :drunk:

Passing on the first 100 or so for 50-odd quid a while back at Beltring remains one of my daftest shopping choices ever.

Still... bought a full set of Wheels & Tracks from the same bloke, so that's OK.

..did almost the same thing ..but accepted £35.. regret it every time ATB gets mentioned. Having said that I've always preferred books over magazines
