Welcome to the forum, Pirate. Some of the more knowledgeable folks will be along in the next day or so.

I will hazard a guess and say that the EAME Campaign medal refers to European-African-Middle Eastern service. The 5 bronze stars, I believe, are for battles in that Campaign. Someone else will have to help you with the bronze arrowhead.

Under "Battles", I'm thinking Central Europe would refer to his D-Day service.

Again, I'm not as well versed on this stuff, so I'd wait for confirmation from someone else on the forum.

hey pirate, welcome to the forum, this is just a guess but as you did mention some of the battles in italy, he might have taken part in operation dragoon, which was the invasion of southern france from the med.the bronze arrowhead is indeed a award for an invasion/combat landing. however, until you can get more paper work this is just a guess as i said. if you could scan the discharge paperwork onto here someone might be able to give you a better answer.:)

It would also help to know the unit with which he served. :)

    Hello Pirate :)

I can help you with your grandpa's medals - the EAME medal would have a silver service star (one silver star worn in lieu of five bronze) and no, he was not part of D-Day, the "Southern France" campaign star relates to Operation Dragoon (15 August-14 September 1944).

    Welcome to the forum Pirate,
As others have said - if you post a copy of the discharge papers I'm sure you will get your answers. Here is what he should have (at the least) and possibly more. The 'Stars and Arrowhead' would go on the EAME. He would also have been awarded the WW2 Victory Medal.
