I've been toying with the idea to get an account here for a long time. I just have been so busy with life and such but now I have a few spare minutes, I hope everyone or at least the majority are friendly and kind to one another. I'm sure you are.

So about me and history, I've been in advanced history courses for as long as I remember. The second world war always struck me as interesting, when I was a child my stepfather would play "Battlefield 1942" with me, he'd drive and I'd be the tank gunner haha. Now though my liking of history goes much deeper, I enjoy great novels such as "The End" by Ian Kershaw. A great book that I would recommend to anyone here who enjoys world war two, oh wait I forgot where I was sorry. I also have had Absolute War by Chris Bellamy on my list for the longest time, however I gave it to my old A.P World History teacher for Winter Break but I should be getting it back soon. In terms of actual fiction I have been a fan of Ernest Hemingway since the beginning of High school, however my girlfriend (I am aware of the huge irony right there) is currently borrowing my copy of his books so I don't have those, and next on my list is "slaughterhouse five" by Kurt Vonnegut, I've been told it's a good book for the longest time.

As for my name (CommissarTom) I wouldn't say I am a fan of the Soviet Union, however I am of Russian decent, my uncle served in the Soviet army and used to play the violin for me when I went to sleep, he would normally play Red Army Choir and Russian tunes so I do find the Soviet Union to be very interesting. A Commissar is a Soviet political soldier essentially, however I'm sure I'm just preaching to the choir here. I still play a lot of world war 2 video games, such as Hearts of Iron III, and Red Orchestra however I tend to stay away from mainstream videogames. Not because I'm a "hipster" I just don't find much taste in them.

Thank you for the wonderful forum to talk about such an interesting moment in the world, and thank you for reading my rant of the day. Take care everyone!

I believe thats my cue! Welcome Tom, Always glad to have another reader around here! (believe me alot of these guys are just here for the pretty pictures!) Hope you will take the time to post reviews of the war fiction you read as we don't have a great deal in that area and I was hoping to start a War Fiction Sub-Forum in our book review section. (Slipdigit shakes his head in dismay and mutters..'oh bloody hell, not another one!') You will find a great deal on gaming and WWII history to pass your time with. Enjoy!

would I be able to write something like "The month in Review" where I could talk about books, video games, and movies that I have seen that are about the second world war? I've always wanted to and I know quite a bit on how to write.

I don't want to take over at all, I just like to post reviews on things I've read/done/watched. I'm also not to bad at it, it would also bring some new world war two films, books and videogames into our life which is also great.

You could split them out into their respective forums (start a thread in the "movies" forum, and write up your reviews there, same with the games and books forums). Just start new threads, or utilize the "review" threads already in place. I know the books forum has a review thread already started, feel free to add to it!
