Hi, I'm Natascha, 45 years old and from Denmark
I'm trying to help my father piecing our family history together, but much of the information I find is simply not detailed enough. I hope this forum might be able to help

Hello Natascha and welcome to the forum.
If any of your relatives served in ww2, can you please post details and perhaps any photos, then members may be able to help you.

Welcome to the forum Natascha. I read your other thread, but will have to study it more carefully. I hope others will chime in as well. There are many here who might be of assistance.

Thank you all for the nice welcome :)

Lesley: I haven't much to tell at this point. The only family member who served, was my great grandfather, Ivan Ivanovitch Sidorenko, who served in the Red Army. However, at that point my family had lost contact with him, so we don't know anything else. I know he survived so I believe information can be tracked down.

Although not being directly related, it is perhaps nevertheless interesting that Obersturmbannführer Aksel Knudsen was the one who helped my family escape from Ukraine in 1943. I have googled his name and see he has managed to remain pretty anonymous (he was involved in dairy, so no big fish anyways).

What could be a really interesting twitch to that story, is that Aksel Knudsen was responsible for having my grandmother pass as 1/2 aryan. But my genealogy search suggests that either her father or grandfather was Jewish! I am very eager to find final proof. Now, wouldn't that be a story to tell!

Welcome Tassia, i hope you will find the information you want. I think it will not be easy to retrieve that information out of Ukrain files, but thats just a feeling.

Tassa, it sounds as though your family was Jewish? Am I correct? Perhaps you could also contact Yad Vashem on the chance they could provide more information?

Regardless, if Obersturmbannführer Aksel Knudsen did help Jewish survivors to escape death, he is probably worthy of the title "The Righteous Among Nations", maintained by Yad Vashem. His name may already be there.

Here is another link that may help you understand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Righteous_Among_the_Nations
