    Greetings! :v4victory:

My name is DIno, and I'm from Croatia, age 29.

This is my first post on this forum, and I just want to say how glad I am to be a part of it. I came here because I was looking for a place where I could learn more about the most devastating war in human history. Let me say right now that I DO NOT support or care about any political ideology of that period, and I absolutely do not support any totalitarian regimes, dictatorships or theocracies. I do not care, nor wish to discuss, any aspects of National-Socialism, Communism, Capitalism, British Monarchy or anything like that. My goal is to learn more about what really happened, and why. Who won, who lost, and why did it turn out the way it did.

I'm a historian, is what I'm saying. I don't deal with "what if".

Throughout my life, and especially in my History classes, I heard a lot of fairy tales about WW2, especially about Soviets and Germans. Depending on a political climate of the day, one side was always praised, while the other one was bashed (unfairly). What I hope to find on this forum are some answers to wether or not any of that is true. After all, we owe it to all the veterans and brave men and women who gave their lives for their country to at least get the stories right, and give them all the credit they rightfully deserve. Naturally, my greatest area od interest is the Eastern Front, and the myths surrounding it.

So if I say in some post that, for example, the Germans had cool boots, that doesn't mean I'm a Nazi, and I sincerely hope nobody will call me that. I mean literally that German soldiers really had some kickass boots. I do not favor any side.

That being said, I sincerely hope we'll all have great time learning about history on this forum. Cheers!

Howdy Dino and welcome. Is your ability to speak English as well developed as your ability to write it?

I'm not a big fan of What-Ifs either but we do allow them, with somewhat of a rein on the subject matter and degree of outlandishment we will allow.

Yeah, the Germans had some nice looking equipment and uniforms and it is okay to appreciate the aesthetics, capabilities and employment of this "stuff" without lauding the ideology behind it.

You cannot be a student of WWII unless you throw ideology into the mix. That clash was what it was all about.

German hobnail boots were very noisy compared to the Allied leather or rubber soled shoes/boots. This sound actually was used to cow the local population as the Germans marched through the towns and villages. However it was a distinct disadvantage in combat because the opponents could hear the Germans moving around much easier.

rubber boots were certainly not worn by all allies, nor hobnails by Axis troops only.

I wouldn't want to be kicked in the face by a Frenchman. Then again, the horseshoes the UK and Canada slap on the heels look none too appealing either. Anyone worn any WW2 boots for a proper walk? How do they stack up to Boots Combat High and the like of modern equivalents? Aside from the face kicking they look pretty sturdy and comfy

Welcome to the forums...I will say though, that all wars are started as a result of politics. You can take politcs out of a battle but you cannot ignore them as to a war.

War and politics go hand in hand.

I do though understand the wish to keep battles and equipment away from politics.

War though cannot be kept away.
