Hi, I wanted to share my grandad's story after a poignant visit to IWM Duxford. Hope you like his story, his excerpts from his log book and the pictures I have gathered. I would love to hear any similar stories and also hope to add to this blog post in the future with other amazing stories I have been reading. http://themedthemadandthemod.com/2014/10/23/rear-gunners-a-perilous-and-lonely-war/
Very nice write up, LouVic. I especially love the photo of your Granddad. I hope you will be adding more to his story.
LouVic My late brother was a Mid Upper Gunner and was to perish over Nuremberg in March 1945. His story can be found here: http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/36770-the-last-flight-of-lancaster-rf154-as-b/ Ron
That's a very emotional read Ron. Please do feel free to add any of it on to my blog by commenting on the rear gunners story I posted. Or perhaps you would let me link back to your story here? Louise
Louise The story is very much in the public domain so do feel free to provide a link on your blog. Best regards Ron
A powerful story, Louise. I also can't imagine a young man doing that. In fact, I wonder how men and women of the 40s did what they did. Kudos to them all.
