Hello, I am researching my wife's uncle, Felix Treme, who served in the 401st AAA Battalion in Italy. I have done some initial googling on the 401st but am looking for more information. I have also attached his discharge document, and need help deciphering some of the acronyms and other information. Thanks in advance.

Well, looks like he enlisted in '42 and was trained as an artilleryman. He served with Dog Battery of the 401st throughout five campaigns in Italy, and the "EAME" is the European-African-Mediterranean Campaign Medal. Strange though, only a campaign medal listed for a man with five campaigns in three years of service. This info is obviously very rudimentary, if you're looking for something specific I could be of more help.

Thanks Cadillac, I was unfamiliar with the EAME acronym.....do you know of any good histories or background on the 401st AAA Battalion? I would love to be back at Carlisle Barracks PA and the Army War College (I was Class of 2007) to get my hands on a good 401st history document. Not sure if Army War College allows online research, will have to check into that.

Just one point, just because he was discharged from the 401st does not mean he was in that unit the whole time. My father was in 3 units and the last was just to rotate home. Need to check the campaigns against those earned by the unit.

My father was in the 72nd AAA Gun Battalion. Here is a link with some info on 5th Army AAA units. http://www.lonesentry.com/fiftharmyaa/

It looks like the campaigns of his service match up with the 401st, according to Stanton. I'm still trying to find more on the 401st.

Jones and LRusso, thanks so much! I have put in a request for any unit history information on the 401st with the US Army Heritage Center at Army War College in Carlisle PA, we'll see if I can get anything from there.

You might want to also check the NARA II at College Park, MD. That's where the bulk of unit records are kept.
