Hi, After 70 years have just found my Dad, and he was in The Big Red One . Stationed in Dorset UK before D Day . On 21 st June 1944 he was with Company F 18th Infantry when awarded Silver Star for gallantry in Normandy ( but where ? ) and on 10 th October 1944 he was wounded in Germany and awarded Purple Heart whilst with Company A 18 th Infantry. October dates coincide with the 18 th Infantry at Crucifix Hill Near Aachen. If anyone can help with information with either of these dates for the respective companies would be much appreciated
Welcome to the forums. In the above site it states my father was of HQ 1 st division , but Company F 18 th Infantry in historical records from First Infantry museum. Name, service number are both the same
Decorations are approved at division or regiment. When they are approved by division headquarters, it is included in the division general order--therefore, the award would read HQ 1st Inf. Div. and the GO number that it was issued under--regardless of what Company he was assigned to when he earned it. Some lesser rated decorations could be approved at Regiment level. Lou is correct, the more information we have to work with the more help we might be.

I am a 16th Infantry historian, and also have a great amount of documents on the 18th. Send me a PM with the information you have, and the information you are still looking for.
