    Hello everyone,
my name is David, I am a journalist and photographer originally from the Czech Republic currently living in London
I am just completing a book about survivors of genocide in the Independent State of Croatia which is what brought me to the WW2 topic
My plan is to continue with a book about descendants of survivors
I am not sure if posting links to Kickstarter is allowed here, but you can search the project by Unspoken Genocide.
I'd be interested in your input
    Happy to answer any questions
    Thank you

Welcome. PM Otto to make sure but most of us are happy to see authors and I suspect the kickstart link will be fine. Probably want to post it in the appropriate subforum though so it gets the exposure it deserves.

Interesting that I live in Alabama and have two Croatian friends one street over. The war in what was once called Yugoslavia was certainly complex, convoluted and treacherous. Who was your friend ? You have chosen a worthy topic. Being a citizen of the Czech Republic now living in London will should give you the background to enrich us as have so many here from more cosmopolitan backgrounds that I have.. A big welcome to you.

Hello guys and thank you very much for the very warm welcome!

I spoke to twenty of the survivors, not only about their war experience, but also about the effects on their life after war and the fact that under Brotherhood and unity (building Yugoslavia along with Croatia etc) they were unofficially forbidden to talk about it... that is one of the reasons I call the book Unspoken Genocide.

Some of their stories and memories are absolutely appaling I have to say. I know there is a strong revisionist movement in Croatia for couple of decades. On the other side in Serbia some radicals wish to increase the number of victims.

The fact is, that there has never been a solid multilateral investigation and process to establish what really happened and who are the perpetrators. Nothing like Nuremberg etc.

As for the survivors, they are all over 80 and have lived with nightmares for the last 7 decades. They are the primary focus of my book, I am not trying to establish the truth, seek names of Ustashe or compare the genocide to some other.

The book is in fact a photography essay with quotes from the interview and links to dedicated website where I will publish the full interviews and add translations and extras.

If you, guys, don't mind, here is the Kickstarter link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/davidsladek/unspoken-genocide

    Happy to answer your questions...

BTW: Is there an appropriate forum for this topic? I found and posted somethinf on the Easter Front > Tito .. but I am afraid my survivors are not overly positive about the man

    Kind Regards

    David

But do PLS start a thread on it in the book section as well. Some people that might be quite interested don't frequent this subforum.
