The treaty only requires to protect the member countries. Countries that ask for membership are not under 100% protection. They might ask for faster membership but that is all. After Russian offensive I would consider all old USSR countries to be under possible attack. Russia wants all back. Are you not any more afraid in Crotia I.e. Yugoslavia? Just curious. I know about Tito and the ethnic wars in the 90's.

Not really. The only real threat is Serbia, but currently, that threat is more political than military.

It would be a problem if Bosnia falls apart, though.

We consider the Russian threat more political, as well. However, when you are facing it, it does not make you feel any better. Russia gave tanks, artillery and all military power to Serbia that was used against Croatia etc in the 90's. Not thinking that the more powerful NATO would be better? The Bosnia crisis is a more problematic one, too. In-between living between people is a rough one.

The destruction of Sarajevo library must be one of the most horrible deeds of the scum after ww2, I think.

In a way I find it funny that Karadzic was the leader of the black market and the leader of " only a Serb can help a Serb " propaganda ". Pumping out the money anywhere. What a rotten fool.

    Putin is amazingly nuts....

Ukraine latest news: Russian strike on Kyiv during UN visit killed journalist - BBC News

Ukraine's presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak says missile strikes hit Kyiv during the official visit of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Podolyak adds: "The day before he was sitting at a long table in the Kremlin, and today explosions are above his head. Postcard from Moscow?"

One of the rockets that struck Kyiv on Thursday landed near the hotel where the visiting UN secretary general is staying, according to his spokesman.

    ----------

As the UN secretary general went from Moscow and meeting Putin direectly to Kyiv, Putin knew that he could kill the secretary general. No sense of moral. He´s a mad dog.

It might be a message that he doesn't care about the UN, though.

If I understood the BBC news page correctly, the British foreign minister said Russia must be pushed out of Ukraine, and also that Crimea must be liberated, too.

Yes, she said Russia must be pushed out of all of Ukraine...Not just the territory taken over recently.

Back on 25 February, I posted an item by Ward Carroll, a retired US Navy F-14 pilot, about Ukraine's "Ghost of Kyiv". He is/was a Ukranian pilot that became an ace in a day by shooting down 6 Russian aircraft in a day, 2 SU-35s, 1 SU-27, 1 MiG 29, and 2 SU-25s.
Here's a link to that post if you'd like to see the original video: Why....

Unfortunately, Ward Carroll posted another video today identifying the "Ghost of Kyiv", and breaking the sad news that he'd been killed in action.

    Video here:

    RIP Major Tarabalka.

Although to be fair Putin himself probably isn't directly responsible for which missiles are fired where and when. Russian missiles hitting Ukranian cities are normal these days

I think he sure could have said no missiles to Kyiv today, and he didn't. And anyway, the Russians said they only targeted military targets but only kill civilians every day. How convenient. Hitting those that cannot protect themselves enough from direct rocket hits. Military targets my a**. How come during early war they did hit military targets and now civilians. That is terror war.

For instance against the Kramatorsk railway station Russians used cluster bombs and killed 59 civilians. The Russians said officially Ukraine bombed the place themselves??! Do they really think in Russia we are morons? It seems they do.

US Speaker Nancy Pelosi says her delegation had the “great honour to meet with the President of Ukraine yesterday.”

Ukraine latest news: Safe passage for civilians to leave Mariupol under way - UN - BBC News

Pelosi says she was proud to convey “a message of unity from the Congress of the United States, a message of appreciation from the American people for his leadership and admiration to the people of Ukraine for their courage.”

    ------------------

A fire broke out at a Russian defence ministry site close to the Ukrainian border, according to the governor of the Belgorod region.

The governor of another Russian region near the Ukrainian border, Kursk, said part of a freight railway bridge had collapsed, with no casualties.

Russia has frequently accused Ukraine of attacks on its territory near to the border---> YOU MUST BE JOKING. WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN UKRAINE? PLANTING FLOWERS, I PRESUME.

He's doing the same as (someone else who won't be mentioned) by lying, denying and obfuscating the actual reality. Russia has lost the 'military operation' as well as Crimea. He just can't accept it. Putin will become a pariah to not only the World but also to the Russians.

    Just saw this:

(CNN)Russian troops in the occupied city of Melitopol have stolen all the equipment from a farm equipment dealership -- and shipped it to Chechnya, according to a Ukrainian businessman in the area.

But after a journey of more than 700 miles, the thieves were unable to use any of the equipment -- because it had been locked remotely.
Over the past few weeks there's been a growing number of reports of Russian troops stealing farm equipment, grain and even building materials - beyond widespread looting of residences. But the removal of valuable agricultural equipment from a John Deere dealership in Melitopol speaks to an increasingly organized operation, one that even uses Russian military transport as part of the heist.
The full article and a video of a Ukrainian businessman who asked the Ukraine military to bomb his house.

You learn something new almost every day. Like Putin says old borders should be re-established. How about the Ukraine state next to the Pacific ocean created in the spring of 1918....your memory does not serve well, it seems. It was not Lenin who created Ukraine, he conquered and destroyed it in the far east.Read the history books again before talking trash.

Number and share of Ukrainians in the population of the regions of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic according to the 1926 census. Darkest areas have at least 50% Ukrainians. The circled regions are the approximate location of the various “wedges,” west to east: Raspberry, Yellow, Grey, and Green. (Credit: Oleg Zima, CC BY-SA 3.0 / Ruland Kolen)

A second Congress, held in Khabarovsk in January 1918, proclaimed Green Ukraine to be part of the Ukrainian state — despite the minor inconvenience that the motherland was a continent away. At a third Congress in April of that year, the delegates approved the creation of a Ukrainian state with access to the Pacific.

The Ukrainian Republic of the Far East was officially proclaimed on April 6, 1920. But “Green Ukraine” did not survive for long. In October 1922, Communist forces invaded the territory. The last holdouts were defeated in June 1923.

Maybe Ukraine should claim some of Russia's land, instead
