I think a NATO country can leave...but its difficult to kick a country out.
Turkey leaving NATO would make the whole middle east thing very difficult...

 

Somehow almost all politicians elsewhere say about Turkey " Nah, it will be over soon" like Turkey was a child that does not get a new shiny bicycle.
I also read that Erdogan's popularity is at the moment quite low, and he's trying to get himself more votes by making foreign countries look bad. There was also new elections in Turkey next year, I think. I also recall when Turkey threatened to let the Syrian refugees through to Europe although they had been paid quite a lot of money by EU to build camps to these people.
In March Turkey had nothing against Finland and Sweden joining NATO. Political nonsense from Turkey. They want that " new shiny bicycle".

 

Very true. There is nothing in the Treaty concerning suspension or expulsion.

Nor is this the first time there have been calls to expel Turkey, however, politically, the costs have always outweighed the benefits.

 

In March, nobody seriously thought Finland & Sweden would join NATO. Given that, Turkey had no leverage dealing with Finland & Sweden. Now, Sweden & Finland want in, and Turkey has the power to stop or hinder their entry - Now Turkey has leverage to bargain with.

Turkey always wanted that shiny new bicycle - they did not have the means to get it then, now they do.

The funeral of Maj Gen Kanamat Botashev is taking place in Russia, days after he was shot down flying a fighter jet over eastern Ukraine.

The body of the retired pilot, whose plane was downed over the Luhansk region last week, was taken by helicopter to Karachay-Cherkessia in Russia's Northern Caucasus, local reports say. He was the highest-ranking pilot to have been lost by Russia's invasion force since the war began on 24 February.

The general was flying an Su-25 warplane when it was targeted by a Stinger shoulder-fired missile system, BBC Russian reported.

Ukraine’s defence ministry says 12 Russian generals have been killed so far during the invasion, but Russia has confirmed only two such fatalities.

 

Turkey's ambassador to Sweden, Emre Yunt, told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that Turkey "wants to solve the problems" that have led to a stalling of Finland's and Sweden's accession talks.

Erdoğan has previously characterised Finland and Sweden as countries that arm and hide terrorists, with reports in the Turkish media alleging that Sweden is arming the PKK
( Kurdistan workers´party ).

Yunt told Aftonbladet that ending western support for the Kurdish groups is Turkey's main demand and therefore the biggest obstacle to supporting Finland and Sweden's membership of Nato.

" We have confirmed that they have Swedish weapons," Yunt said.

For NATO, Turkey Is a Disruptive Ally

Within an alliance that operates by consensus, the Turkish strongman has come to be seen as something of a stickup artist. In 2009, he blocked the appointment of a new NATO chief from Denmark, complaining that the country was too tolerant of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad and too sympathetic to “Kurdish terrorists” based in Turkey. It took hours of cajoling by Western leaders, and a face-to-face promise from President Barack Obama that NATO would appoint a Turk to a leadership position, to satisfy Mr. Erdogan.

After a rupture in relations between Turkey and Israel the next year, Mr. Erdogan prevented the alliance from working with the Jewish state for six years. A few years later, Mr. Erdogan delayed for months a NATO plan to fortify Eastern European countries against Russia, again citing Kurdish militants and demanding that the alliance declare ones operating in Syria to be terrorists. In 2020, Mr. Erdogan sent a gas-exploration ship backed by fighter jets close to Greek waters, causing France to send ships in support of Greece, also a NATO member.

Most analysts believe that Mr. Erdogan will not ultimately block the accession of Sweden and Finland, but that he wants to highlight Turkey’s own security concerns and make domestic political gains before elections in his country next year.

 

Seems that it's time to let Turkey go then, but that's just me.
