I can't comment on the accuracy of the US WW2 rockets, but the British ones used by the Typhoon scored a success rate of one in twenty against tanks - under ideal conditions in training. In combat, the official estimate of the hit rate was one in 200.

Examination of knocked-out German tanks after the battles revealed that very few had been hit by any sort of air attack.

Rockets did take out lots of vehicles, as a near miss could easily destroy a Kubelwagen or lorry, and could cause damage to an APC. Tanks did require a direct hit, which was rare.

Oh sure, the rocket was a good 'semi-area' weapon, more precise than bombs which enabled it to be used closer to friendly troops. Certainly worth having in the armoury. It just wasn't the 'tankbuster' it was claimed to be.

No, it wasn't, since the rockets used in WW2 were unguided and not known for precision accuracy.

Were they ever used on armour? That would seem to me to be a bit of a waste of a good Anti-ship missile.
Or did they develop Anti-tank missiles too?

It's fortunate for the Allies that none of these weapons were available in 1942... 8)
