    Rear Echelon Mother . . .

I was assigned to babysit him. There were more important things I could have been doing.

    Well I'll be damned!

George Bush is in for shock if he considers Atheist"s to not be American citizens...that would mean two thirds of the country, and all the heretics that preach evolutionism, wicka, watching Lucille Ball and Desi, WTF else does George consider un-American?

I too ask the question from the memorial...."Where IS the peace?"...Do our kids keep having to swan off to lands afar forevermore?

To borrow a line from Pink Floyds last album, "The Final Cut"

    Whatever happened...to ENGLAND
    Should we shout?
    Should we scream?
What happened....to the post war dream?
Oh Maggie....Maggie what have we done?

I fell out with forces chaplains in basic. Catholics over here, protestants over there..There was no none believers...they were not catered for....Right catholics with me says dog collared uniformed medalled priest.....True Id had enough of em in childhood but this took the biscuit...Leave your rifles outside please....Cant do that father.....I'm sir not father now...that made me think even more about the ego rather than the given rank....Cant, not allowed to leave weapons unattended...Blimey this is basic...Im more scared of my sergeant than this dog collared ego mad git in front of me..
I'm ordering you to leave your weapons outside, this is the house of God or words to that effect....Many more have passed this route before you without argument.

Many more probably got caught in the same way then mate....

    Where are you going....

    I'm protestant suddenly..taraaar father.

A politician with religion.....I despair how anyone can serve their nation and then draw a line as to who they indeed do serve.

As to Maggie...I asked the same question in 79.

Same crap in Navy boot camp in '69. "You are required to attend the religious service of your choice."

You weren't atheist/agnostic, you were some religion, even if it was "No preference". Government mandated attendance of religious services was legal then. I don't know if it is know. I do hear that they use the AA 12-step program for drug and alcohol rehab programs, even though it requires "making peace with God" or some such crappola.

I attended more church services in 9 weeks of boot camp than I have in the 40 years since, and the 12 years prior. (The preacher asked my mother not to send me to church any more when I was 7, I kept asking questions he couldn't answer very well.)
