Hi Luke, my Brother does the same thing. I find it nice to do so but I still don't trust the internet enough to do that-or at last do it often. This guy will spend literally from about 9AM in the morning-till 3am-constantly online looking at stuff-or watching movies and such. I can't-I have to get up and move around some-I get too restless. Hi Bob, well said.Same thing here on the uses of the internet. Two great Gents who are members here-played a role in keeping me from getting shafted on an item both of whom I owe a lot of gratitude towards. Also, several years ago, a German friend of mine saved me from getting shafted on two Panzer Assault Badges-one silver-the other in Bronze. ANyway, these I bought for the then going prices so price was not a tip-off-however, the makers markings were. Both badges were made by a maker who only made numbered PABs-which is JFS for Josef Felix and Sohn. Thanks to the internet-I was able to just barely (and lucky I caught the dealer before he left town)) and was able to get a full refund. I wound up buying some other things from him in which he actually made more money from me than he had the day before. Anyway, the two Gents here who helped steer me clear of a not-necessarily fake item but-it wa "Doctored up" and sold as such. Thanks to them both, and a book I got in about 6 weeks or so ago-as well as from other guys opinions, we all found ou the item was indeed doctored up and we all steered way from it. Hi Urgh, I actually did consider one of those but, I knew if I got one-that I would be held "hostage" when I was away from home instead of paying attention to my daily exercise walks ;-)) I did see a pretty lady one day whom I met at a neighborhood Swimming pool-who was using ione while sun-tanning. I walked up to her while yakking on my cell phone (an instrument that has already taken me over) and I laid down on the only available lounge chair which happened to be next to her. I think we both thought the same thing at the same time-because we both were grinning at each other because of us using electronics instead of enjoyong the swimming pool. I finally got through with my call, and she shut her blackberry down at about the same time. This lady-who was wearing a lime green 2-piece bikini-and very tanned-asked me about my phone and I told her the only thing I knew how to do on my phone-was to recodr and select rings tones and to charge the thing up-but I let her check it out while I looked at her "toy." I swear though, both of us were thinking the same thing and at the same time-we both blurted out that we were held hostage-to electronics. Needless to say, she and I got along very well and wound up spending about 2 hrs at the pool-talking instead of swimming. Hi Mark, at least you can pull the plug on computer usage, but, im afraid I caught the internet "bug" from my Brother-but just not as badly as he has it. This is the first time today I logged onto the internet--appx 5PM-while my Brother has been on already-for 9 hours and still hasn't slowed down. Hi Kai, in your case its also very understnadable to spend a lot of time online. At least half of my time spent is looking things up for people-which unfortunately-sometimes I forget to do for others on things. Heh heh, i'll tell you one thing I really do miss is--which is a Rolodex. At least I was able to manage mine with no problem, but I tried to have all of this online-and no--something is always getting messed up.
The computer has been both an open window to people and knowledge all over the world, and sometimes a window that keeps me inside looking out instead of doing things! When I was home sick for 2 years (2000 to 2002) it kept me connected and my mind alert so that I wasn't behind when I was able to go back to work. I've slowed down on my online time in the past year or so, probably because I'm on the computer so much at work. I'm trying to find a balance. I'm in the process of setting up what was my step-son's room as an art studio/office so shall need to monitor myself, as with no longer sharing a computer room with my husband mean's it will be too easy to have hours disappear researching - usually similar to others starting with one item that connects sideways to others and I find hours have gone by. Nice though when I can't sleep or have the time to know I have something to do. As also said by others, without the computer and internet I'd have never met the wonderful rogues here or had the opportunity to read the memories our Vets have graciously shared with us here. PS Carl wait until you also add Facebook to your activities - especially with all the online friends you have!!!
Computers/Internet are like Women....can't live with them, can't live with out them. Everyone knows how amazing computers etc can be today, but everyone also knows how frustrating they can be when they decide not to work right, or if get a Virus, etc. I am still dumbfounded about how the computer was invented, and how a bunch of metallic parts with electricity running through them allow me to play games that look realistic, and generate images on a screen. Truly amazing technology, especially when you consider that a CP is no bigger then a 1-inch square.
This is perhaps the greatest thing about the Internet. It keeps people connected who otherwise would not be. It alleviates a lot of loneliness and probably depression also. Bob Guercio
The only thing about being on the internet at work,,,,, is that I'm on it all day! Maybe 9 hours or more, since we work 12's at the Fire Dept. I'm just as bad as your brother Take care Evans Mark
Thank you for the nice story Michelle as well as I am glad your in better health these days ;-)) As for Facebook, I did sign on there and found a friend I have not seen in at least 20 years. Trouble is is that I forgot what password and such I had for my account and have not thought about checking since I guess Feb? ;-)) Our internet service at home is disruppted I guess because of the street work going on in our neighborhood. Its been out since Monday.
Heh heh, Hi Mark, looks like its got you in its grip. I almost feel like a Slave on a Roman Galley-with computers and the internet. ;-)) Funny as I don't remember life being particularly boring with out it? Back then I ha d all a person might want: my own apt, car, decent paying job, free cable TV with free premium channels, Nintendo 64 and a Girlfriend who could have easily passed for Princess Dianas twin Sister-if she had one ;-)) I sure do miss Jenniffer sometimes. Take care Mark ;-))
