    Cogito, ergo armatum sum

I think, therefore I am armed. maybe...

I want to engrave this Latin motto on my favorite Browning Hi Power, but before I do something stupid I want to make sure the form and gender, etc, are correct. My Catholic school Latin is long gone and was pretty basic even when I knew some. Does anyone know if the form above is correct? Do you use the comma? Should it be armatum rather than armatus or armata (neutral, masculine or feminine)? Armatum is an adjective, would the gender even be assigned to that word in the sentence? My Intertube searches on this are conflicting and if I want to make sure it's correct before having it engraved on an expensive pistol.

Online translators are absolutely useless with Latin because with this language inflection and context are everything.

Depends on whether you are a boy or a girl. If you're a boy, it's "armatus." If you're a girl, it's "armata." "Armatum" means . . . err . . . you used to be a boy, but you got fixed.

Yeah, I get the gender thing, but would that be applied to the adjective in a sentence?

I was just making a joke as most linguists consider "Latin" a dead language no longer spoken in its original, however studied it may be by educated scholars......

Absolutely. Adjective must agree with what it describes, in this case, the left-out "ego" that is the subject of "sum."

I think Dave has it right, KB. I studied Koine Greek a few years ago and it has similar grammar rules.

Hoc opus, hic labor est :that's the problem, that's the difficulty :

Grammatici certant :the grammarians are discussing
If I am not wrong (horresco referens) :it's :armatus, but,in cauda venenum.

exemple :Hannibal, civium suorum invidia debilitatus :Hannibal was paralysed by the envy of his fellow-citizens.

Esse(to be) is accompanied by a predicate, which has the nominatif, but, videre (to see) has a direct object, which is put in the accusatif.:exemple :video hominem armatum(I see the armed man)

    other exemples :

audiam Obamam, sed non fisus (John Boehner) :I heard Obama, but,I was not convinced

homo sapiens in corpore sano (Dianne Feinstein) :an intelligent man in a healthy body :about a jogging Obama

quousque tandem abutere Obama patientia nostra ( Sarah Palin) :how long,Obama, will you abuse our patience (abuti has the ablatif)

Actually, I know a Catholic priest and see him almost every day... until this question came up, and I haven't seen him at all. He must be out of town.

armatus looks right though no self repecting Roman would ever say that, tas he "right to bear arms" had a lot more to do with social status than with personal choice with them.
