Wonderful pictures Nick, this is great. The Lijndonk has been tarted after the war and the brick factory is a farm with sheds nowadays. Thank you very much , this gives me a clear idea of the area . I am amazed by the fact that it is so close from the base and yet in the countyside.

Well here it is... A year ago in November I was searching in the woods near Rijen where a munitiondump was located in the war. Not the small stuff but the 2000kg bombs. After a while I found some shelters where these things were lying in. You can see them vaguely as you walk by.

After many hours and some small cartridjes and a lot of trash... I found this!!

    ... And look after cleaning.

I have asked on lot of forums, Dutch and german and send a lot of emails but nobody can tel me exactly what this object is for... It has something to do with a bombhatch... But what exactly is still a riddle for me? So information is wanted!! The text calls:
    Schliessvorgang
    Knopf eindrucken Hebel
    gleichzeitig schliessen
    Offnungsvorgang
    Knopf 2mal eindrucken.

I know what it means in Dutch but I have a little trouble to translate it in English.
    I'll give it a go.
    Close ....
Push button, close the handle at the same time.
    Open .....
    Push button x 2

That cartridge ( the right-hand one ) looks very old....rimmed, with possibly a rounded point.....

Another nice item Nick! Here is a translation :

    Schliessvorgang = closing procedure:
    Knopf eindrucken = press button
Hebel gleichzeitig schliessen = close handle simultanuously

    Offnungsvorgang = opening procedure
Knopf 2 mal eindrucken. = press button twice

It is clearly an opening device with a security procedure. I'm not certain this was for a bomb hatch however. I could be a standard spare for wing flaps or landing gears.

Hi Skipper, thank you for the translation.
I posted it on the Luftwaffe forum, so I am curious what it may be...

Also I want to wish everybody a happy new year.

    Regards,
    Nick

Well there are not that many items on an aircraft that need two actions at the same time, so it's quite an interesting challenge. I have a turbo device from a ME109 G6 but these handles work with a key attached to a small chain, not a button and a handle. Gilze Rijen mostly had Junkers Ju88 and Dorniers (several types), so I would focuss on a Ju88 device first. If you are looking for a Junker (Nightfighter) item, I would think of a wing flap or a landing gear retrieval device. Thanks for your wishes Nick. Happy New year to you and don't eat too many oliebollen.

What do you find of this guys.
2 English photo's of B77 (Fliegerhorst Gilze Rijen).
The best part... I've got them for free!
    BTW, they are large photo's.

Excellent postings Nick. These are really nice ! Have you tried to identify the Squadron or the pilots. The a.c. behind looks like a Typhoon (or a Spitfire it 's a bit vague), if you tell me the calling code I can tell you the squadron.

    Hi Skipper,
I have not yet searcht for which sqoudron, I am a bit more busy with the German side of the Fliegerhorst for now. But I am very curious!
What do you mean with the calling code? The code on the Typhoon?

BTW, soon I will go to that B17 site again, I'll hope I find something!

Yes the code on the fuselage . I believe I can see an "L" but can't read the two main letters which are the identification of the Squadron. This is however not mission impossible. I'm certain somebody will know was was based at Gilze Rijen at the end of 1944.

The shape of the tailfin is certainly that of a Hawker Typhoon....
