Forum Members. http://www.ww2f.com/members/ Is Search by Country location possible Otto? Example: Looking for Japanese input today at: http://www.ww2f.com/topic/57511-need-help-with-list-of-most-famous-wwii-warships/ Finland is a common request area, thankfully we have a live one here on the forum. But for more obscure or underrepresented areas aka Italy, such a tool might prove to be very useful.
It's a useful idea Fred but not one our current software (Invision Power Board) can provide. It's not going to be implemented in the short term at least, as IPB is on it's way out here, we are migrating to a new platform relatively soon, and unfortunately the ability to search users by location is down on the list behind other more pressing items like getting the fundamental nuts and bolts in working order first.
Then I repeat. If you consider yourself an expert in your part of the world, especially obscure or underrepresented areas then please add yourself to the member map here. http://www.ww2f.com/membermap/ A simple click on your ID brings up the ability look up who to PM to with a pertinent request. K Folks? Unfortunately the direct / logical link to your Profile page function is broken. Copy paste and search will have to do, at least for now.
Didn't we have a map function that essentially put digital pins on a digital map for where members were? I think you had to take the extra step of inputting your location though.
Otto? Above I punched in http://www.ww2f.com/membermap/ But having entered myself already, is there a different url you have to use to add your pin location? Or - once done, you can't see that anymore there....
I think I'll request a bit of extension to that. You may not consider yourself to be an expert but if you have access to local sources and even a reasonable knowledge about your countries participation in WWII I encourage you to add yourself. It's very easy for English speakers to be overly reliant on US and British sources and interpretations.
If and when possible, you may want to add a foreign language speaker search function, e.g. German, French, Italian, Japanese, etc. Stefan.
HA96 - are you the one and only steffen on my most admired list? Steffan IT from LostAircraft.com? If so, welcome welcome, welcome!
Two quick things to keep in mind about this location search. First, we are moving away from the clunky Invision Power Board (IPB) to a new platform relatively soon, no major or minor edits to functionality will be implemented if they are to go away soon. Second, a user location search will only be as good as the info the user provides. If the member doesn't wish to share their location one will never know from where they hail. I respect everyone's privacy, so location identifying IPs will be blocked to all but admins+mods. I'm sure looking up locations would be helpful to many, but its a bit awkward to solicit research help from members out of the blue. I think this is a think best left to a simple public request, and those willing to help will either contact you or they won't.
