very nice Will......your iron crosses look to be in very good condition (well the first 3) - but still i would'nt complain with the last one either yes the imperial stuff is appealling is'nt it! and still a good bit cheaper then the ww2 too
Hi Will, now "we" know where all your money is being spent at-which is commonly known as: "The dark side of militaria collecting" (aka) Imperial stuff    Heh heh, nice EKIIs though ;-)) Any hopes of getting an 1870? ;-)) I have one that Andy has been trying to weedle me out of by inticing me with a trade of his 5th Uhlan helmet for my 1870 EKII ;-)) PS, as far as Imperial EK makers go--I favor the ones mady by K.O-which is the Kings own maker. I have I think only one Imperial EKII and EKI both with that maker. As for the rest-I don't know if any have makers marks or not? haven't thought to pay attention to that. Nice collection of EKs though. Now enough is enough of Imperial-"we" need to make you-er-"we" need to get you to collect some of the BETTER crosses made-that is-those from WWII. Oooo, this ought to give Andy/K/ nightmares after reading
Thanks Andy, the last one is a bit worse for wear, but is better in hand! Carl, I would very much like your 1870 EKII I am on the lookout, but they seem to come and go very quickly. I don't want to go into Imperial stuff too much because I know I'll end up spending too much. As for 39' EK2s - Don't worry, I have an ever growing assortment of them (sorry Andy K), and will try and post them here at some point... I also have a question about the maker K.O. - It appears that someone on ebay once listed an iron cross marked K.O. and said it was field made. Now, it seems everyone who sells a WW1 EK2 with mm K.O. says that means it's field made. Am I right in saying that this is not at all the case?!
Hi Will, you might want to try Weitze, Niemann and or Huesken for an 1870 (or) Der Rittmeister Militaria Entrance Page . These guys will be your best sources for an 1870. I got mine from Weitze several years ago and probably paid too much-but im happy with it because it came mounted as a 1-place Prussian medal bar. ;-D Another one I almost bought at that time but didn't have enough funds for-was one that also had the 25 year Oaks mounted to it-and that one easily sold about 8 years ago-for at least $450.00. 25 Year Oaks are now going almost for that much by themselves. Oh and just TRY to get a 1914 Wiederholungsspange for the 1870 EKI or EKII. I have one-but it's a 1957 version of the 1914 Wiederholungsspange for the 1914 EKI-which looks like the Imperial version but was meant to replace the 1939 Spange-which was the Eagle shaped badge. I had to almost give up on Imperial even though for the longest time, most Imperial was actually cheaper than WWII stuff. That trio of Imperial Wound Badges your getting I got less than a year ago ;-)) The other set of Imperial WBS I have, I got those about 8 years ago and the dealer claimed they were all from the same soldier-whether that's really true or not? I can't say-but-the same thing with your trio-the Gent I got them from got them from someone who said they came as a set-and that's quite a possibility ) I wish I had award docs for all of them. Im not sure how to answer you about the K.O question but, one thing I do know is that K.O. were all high quality made EKs-most likely THE highest quality of 1914 makes because it was the Kings favorite EK maker. I don't have mine out and handy to look at them (both EKI and EKII) but the K.O. marks will only be found (that I am aware of) under the tip of the EKI pin and catch, and I am not sure but the EKIIs might have it either on the ring or rim-I forget which? Usually marks are on the rings but I have seen some for sale on nice Imperial Mil sites that are real-that have double K.O. marks-one on the ring and the other on the rim-probably the bottom one. It should be easy to tell either way.
found in shoe box at a local fair yesterday: an original copy of a German 1918 Walter Paasche's Frontkarte. (Imperial two sided leave monthly information paper with maps. ) It has the size of a large newspaper
in fact it is torn in two parts, but I displayed it on the floor so that it looks intact. I will restore next week.
Hey hey, those indeed are some nice items Skipper. I see WWII German Maps for sale all the time-but never Imperial. Andy would love these if he saw them? ;-)) A is headed your way soon as they reload for me to give out ;-))
I recently came upon a sword from the Kings German Legion, while my folks were helping cleaning out a great uncles house who served in WWII. It is to my understanding that he acquired the sword while serving. I have done a little research on the subject, but have not found any help regarding the sword. It is engraved on both sides, with one saying, Peninsula, Waterloo, Garzia and Hermandez. The other says Konigs Ulanen Regt.(1. Hannov)No 13. On the handle is what I believe is the German Royal Coat of Arms. Not 100% sure of that however. Also on the handle are the numbers, 13.U.4.78. If anyone has any information on swords like this, or knows anyone who does, some assistance would be greatly appreciated. my e-mail is gordy_68@hotmail.com.
Hi Guys Here is my one and only Imperial item... It's a mm KAG. The cross is in nice condition with a lovely patina. Best Regards, fischer
Blue, Fischer, Blue, sounds like you have a great Sword. IS ther ea way you can post pics of it? Fischer, very nice-looking 1914 EKII ;-)) I have several in my tiny collection. My favorite of the bunch is my 1870. Anyway, yours is an outstanding cross. I love the sharp details on it.
Evans, I am workin on the pictures. need to find the USB cord for my camera. do you know of anyone who can help me out with finding some information on the sword?
Hi Blue, its possible I might know someone who is very good with Swords. I can ask around a bit as well as to a couple of Dealer/Friends of mine. Trouble is, is the first thing they will ask for ar epics of it ;-)) If Kruska (Andy) were still here? he would be your best source for help on the sword. Im not clear why he no loonger visits? but ill send him an email inquiring on this sword. Andy is well-versed on things dealing with Uhlan Regiments. One thing both Andy and I have in common is things dealing with the 5th Uhlan Kav Regiment. He owns some items to it as I do. I can also ask a dealer I have bought from in the past about this sword. All this guy deals in is Imperial. Anyway, just whenever you can post pics on this item? just keep us informed and ill know how to procede then. From your description of the sword-meaning the names of some battles that Kav Rgmt took part in, sounds like to me that it was a presantation or commemorative sword of somekind. The Germans did that with Daggers and Bayonets and such all the time.
Evans. I found my USB, and will be uploading some photos. I am going to be gone this weekend, but I will have them uploaded on sunday. Thank you for all of the help. I appreciate it. This is my first venture into this type of thing, and I am loving it.
Hi Blue, glad to try helping. If I can't find something out for you? try contacting the Gent who owns and operates: Der Rittmeister Militaria Entrance Page This guy has an amazing knowledge of such stuff and what he doesn't know? he has customers who will know ;-)) I've only done business with him on rare occasions, but that's only because im always finding other stuff to get before I look at what he has for sale. Anyway, I put out two "feelers" late last night to see if I can get more info about this Sword but nothing in my email addys yet. Just a word of caution though: If someone can shaft you out of this item, they will do their best to do so. Aslo, dealers only pay dealer prices and will talk you down as much as possible using lines like: I have several of these and I can't sell them to even get my money back--etc. On rare occasions with dealers, you can get great trade or cash deals because they might be hunting for an item at the time that is like yours. Also, engraved items are much rarer than non engraved. Yours also is attributable to an Uhlan Kav unit and woth more than one to an Artillery or Infantry unit-with few exceptions. I have not had any time to look for info on the 1st Uhlan, but will try to remember to do so and to give you an idea about them, ill try to see who served in that Regiment were eventually Generals, famous soldiers, Pour le Merite Recipients and such--just to give you a General idea. This will take me awhile to get to doing because im currently working on researching soem things to do with Knights Cross guys. Just remind me if I forget to do anything about the 1st Uhlan-it only means that I have not yet finished doing research on the RKT guys and would have forgotten about the Uhlan stuff. Take care--Carl.
Carl, I have done a little previous searching on the website you listed. I found some similiar styles of swords, but have not been able to find a sword close to it on a number of other websites I have visited. I will contact the owner of the site. I have always been interested in collecting militaria. I am a history major in college, and I do not have the resources to get my hands on any. Hopefully this will give me a jumpstart into collecting these types of items.once again thank you for all the help, and I will get some pics posted as soon as possible.
Hi Blue, and thats great you visited Der Rittmeister. The site owner is busy but he will take whatever time you need to discuss any item(s) Heck, I had him on the phone onetime for about 45 minutes just discussing things we each had that had belonged to the Grand Duke of Mecklinburg/Schwerin ;-)) Anyway, I wish you good luck with contacting him and he will steer you in the right direction. Heck, he might be willing to do some sort of trade that will be satisfactory to you. I've been wanting to buy some Imperial Shoulderboards from him for years but I either never had the money because of just making a large purchase elsewhere-or soemthing always happened. My last order from him was a minty color postcard of the Grand Duke. I needed a face to go with the 7 place ribbon bar that was formerly his property ;-))
