Nice items Skipper,DengW/ Skipper, had I known you years earlier-i'd have gladly given to you all the variations of the Hindenburg Cross that I once had. I also used to have a KO marked non-combatant one.

I will check that out tomorrow, the wife is calling me to go out tonight, Iwill send you an email as soon as I have time :)

Great find today at our local flee market!!! A 1916 German Bottle with fluede cloth and leather strap still included. I managed to get everything loose despite the rust and after cleaning the dirt, I found out that it still had about 60% of the original painting. Markings are "Meyer & Harries 1916".

Directly from the local flee market and sold as a tool box with old tools still in it, including a razor, a pocket knive and a whole bunch of junk...... Noone wanted it and everybody said the it was an old rusted box, possibly military and probably from such and such a country, bla.. bla...bla... . The seller eventually asked me and a friend and said he'd be glad to get rid of it for a few euros if I took the rusted tools as well !!! So this is how I got this excellent condition (with almost 100% original painting still on it ) 08-15 MG amno box from the German Imperial army. I couldn't believe it when I washed the dust away : it is just intact as if it had been found yesterday.

totally unexpected too and late in the day and people asking "where did you get those?" My answer is always the same : "at the same place you were looking, but I had my eyes open, and when two dogs fight for a bone, the third gets away with it" :D I still didn't get over the fact that the original paint was still on it after 90 years despite its use as a tool box in someone garage. This is probably what saved it and when the owner passed away , some antique dealer must have got it from the heirs for 2 cents

Heh heh, same thing here. I used to frequent all the popular and more well-known Militaira sites when they updated every Friday. However, every one of those sites became nothing more than a "feeding frenzy" for the German stuff offered for sale. Now I only go there if im looking for a particulat item I am in need of-that might not be something that others want-or at least badly enough. Do the names of Janet & Alden Hamilton, Deltev Niemann, Carsten Baldes, Kai Winkler and Helmut Weitze ring a bell? ;-))

Now I frequent more the lesser-known sites and find good to reat deals on them. These I don't post names to or links because it would be a collecting mistake to do so :-D Just today I found a mint pair of Signals Officers Collartabs for sale for about $25 USD including postage. For me-finding Signals Officers tabs for sale is something that has always eluded me. The pair im getting for a cut-rate price--is nearly mint. I've been looking for a pair of Signals Tabs for safe for the past 15 or so years-and this set is the nicest and one of the few pairs I have seen in all that time. Last Friday I was messing around and looking at sites I normally don't look at and found the site by accident. What was one of the first items I saw for sale? you guessed it-that pair of Signals Offz tabs. I couldn't believe my eyes-and good fortune.

Oh and, this very site has links to a few sites I also discovered that have a few things that might interest you, Erich and Kai. If I have time to go back and look for the sites--ill write them down and send them your way.

That is so true, you should see all the trolls getting up at 4 am to be the first there, they almost run and fight each other like vultures. Then I get there with a friend when they are gone and will find nice objects for fair prices, because I actually look and don't fight instead, and the sellers like me and often put things away for me as well , so there really is no reason for me to hurry and I therfore have more time to spend with Mrs Skipper and the little Skipper brats .

Aint that a disgusting practice? However, I found replacement dealers with good stuff at good prices for sale and I keep them secret. However, in the case fo the guy with the Russian Adrian, and another with LW RKT signed pics--ill let you,E, Andy and Kai know about those in case your interested in something there.

Nice Imperial find today, actually I didn't notice and never would have if a friend hadn't shown me the markings! Check out the Imperial crown on this Schnapps bottle from WWI! It fits perfectly with the British alter ego SRD rhum bottle.

Hi Skipper, nice additions--very nice. I used to have a few of those types pics too-two showing men from Prussian Regimetns wearing their pilbox hats-and a few showing prussians wearing Pichelhaube helmets.

These pics are hard to get for me (unless I get them in Gemrany ) , as at local fairs I usually find French ones only , but finding the Imperal bottle last week really made my day

Yesterday was a good day. It proved once again that you do not need to get up early and go to specialized fairs and pay a fortune for good Imperial material. As I walked by a few sellers at a regular flee market where they usually sell junk, I stopped upon seeing a battered German M-16 helmet, It was pretty rusted and I wasn't going to buy it, but the seller asked me if Iwould be interested in an "officer briefcase" , so I decided to have a look. Upon first sight I did not identify it, but was intriged by the German greyish green colour from WWI , then I opened it and .... Bingo! It's a genuine Verbandtasche with the label still in there. Only a few leather straps are to be replaced, but even the linnen is almost in perfect condition.
The leather inside is as new. there are even straps for cissors and medical instruments.

Nice catch Skipper. These came into use sometime in 1916-when they did away with the Pichelhaubs helmets and issued the more familiar Stahlhelms.

That's precisely what attracted. The Felgrau color made me look inside, I'm glad I did.

hey guys, I was wondering - do any of you know if WW1 wound badges have maker marks on them? If so where wound you normally look for them? (hinge, clasp etc)

it's just that I can't find any info on this - thanks in advance

    Andy

Cheers Andy I only saw your post today, glad you found what you were looking for.

This is what I got yesterday, at a fair in the village next door. It's an Imperial MG 08 wooden amno crate in great condition with markings still on it.

Again I was amazed by the fact that noone had "bothered" buying it. Good for me, as I negociated the thing for a mere 8 euros! All I had to do was clean it and kill the few woodworms in it .
