K ~ I would agree with your points only by the time frame, the jg's were ordered in the fall of 43 to get back to Germany for the defense of the mainland proper, only a few Jg's were left on the Ost front till January 15, 45 when nearly 3/4's of the jg force was ordered back to the Ost to defend Berlin. even with as many NAGR, KG, StG's left on the Ost front it was inefficient to expect JG's such as JG 51, 52 and 54 to take the brunt of the Soviet masses to protect it's own twin engiens from Soviet fighters........... but they did when they were avialble, and this is part of my point due to the wide expanse of the eastern front, no-one could be verywehre at once think you will agree with this
Hello Erich, certainly I would agree on behalf of the JG. However the JG never represented the mass of the Luftwaffe and as such the statement from Globius is wrong about stating that the Russian airforce couldn't be seen. They were shooting the living daylights out of the Luftwaffe in general, especially from end of 1942 onwards. My uncle was a Major in the KG4, did you by chance ever get your hands on the book "KG4 General Wever"? unfortunatly it is sold out since more then a decade and I sadly missed out on it. Regards Kruska
you are both correct. again I point out the LW and the Soviets in return could not be everywhere at once, your uncle am sure was mighty p***ed off without any LW fighter escorts on too many occassions. from 43 onwards the LW was moved everywhere - in places they should not have been like in the Artik, Afrika/Med as for KG 4 I know this title, let me look it still may be avialble.
Hello Erich, Photo from KG4 - my uncle and some of his ground and crew staff. Maybe it might interest you. View attachment 3465 Regards Kruska
