Here's an interesting tid-bit of information....

Robert Duvall, who plays LEE in Gods and Generals, is a direct descendant (sp?) of General Lee himself! Maybe that's why he had such an interest in playing the role....

I saw the movie today with my Civil War Roundtable I'm apart of. Unfortunately we were not impressed by it as we discussed it over dinner afterwards :(

The special effects were one, for me excluding Antietam was another which was a major battle. Alot of talk and not alot of fighting. Some of the incidents revolving around Stonewall weren't true (ie he used to suck on lemons during battles, dancing with the little girl).

We felt they put in alot of scenes such as the Christmas Carols, the Bonnie Blue Flag song, Chamberlain's speech in to his little brother that didn't seem to make sense or make the storyline flow very clearly.

Also Burnside wasnt that arrogant about the pontoon bridges. He admitted that he wasn't that great of a general and he was never cocky about his abilities like they portrayed.

And being Yankees ourselves we felt the movie showed the North as aggressors and hoodlums and idiots who got shot to pieces (which did happen at Fredericksburg too).

There was alot more but that is just some of it. Obviously some will disagree and will surely point out some good points because I seemed to make it sound negative here and I humbly request they do.

After all this board has a great bunch of guys and opinions are always welcome whether they agree or not. Disagreements are good for a Democracy LOL.

    *Greg on his soapbox* :D

I agree with you on alot of those Greg.

The fact that the movie portrayed Stonewall as always sucking on a lemon could be due to the fact that the book "God and Generals" mentions it through out...myabe not, but it's a possibility.

Actually I said that wrong. I should have said not showing him sucking on lemons as he was known to do that during a battle. They changed it to lemonade in the movie.
