I haven't seen any mention of the Twenty Year Anniversary for this great site so...... Congratulations Otto We're snowed in up here right now, literally: 18" of snow on top of a layer of shear ice, but when I can make it the 3/4 mile to the mail box I'll be sending ya a check in appreciation for all the years of toil and trouble. A belated Happy New Year and wishing the Best to the Staff and all the rogues. Biak
I didn't realize it was the 20 year anniversary of the site. That's a long time. My 10 year anniversary was last year. I'm proud to be a member. I have learned a great deal since joining. Congratulations Otto. You've created a fine site for learning, arguing, and fine tuning what is arguably the seminal activity of the last 100 years. I hope for another 20 years of activity.
I sincerely appreciate all your kind words. The origin of the "WWII Forums" was actually in 1999 on a free forum service when I was in college in Pennsylvania. The original service escapes me, but I think it was the Network54.con network. After a few months there and getting very frustrated about not being able to edit the site to my liking, I registered the domain 'ww2forums.com' and founded the site proper. The dedicated site was put online early in the year 2000. As I was still learning how to run discussion boards, I had to reformat and rebuild the database a few times, and the very earliest posts were lost. As it stands the earliest post I can find is this one here, both of them made 6 Sept 2000: http://ww2f.com/threads/hello-wwiiers.1/ http://ww2f.com/threads/greetings.4202/ There are no timestamps on these posts, so we cannot tell which one was made first. In fact, I can no longer find and posts of my own prior to this date, even though I distinctly recall posting on June 6th of the year 2000. As such, I'm using the date of 1 September 2000 as the "official" start of the WWF Forums, and using this metric, we are 8 months away from our "official" 20th anniversary. I do have something planned for marking 20 years online, I'll have more on that later. By that time, we will be on the next version of the software for this site, Xenforo 2.0, and have a new look and feel.
Well it's not the first time I've jumped to a conclusion. I had thought I had seen a post where you mentioned January 2000 but then again the older I get the more thoughts pile up in my brain. Hense, an ever expanding list of memories and fewer brain neurons or whatever, causes the thinking part to function sporadically.
