Hello, a bit about myself and my Grandpa WW2 VET.

Know such stories! My Grandpa always told me that he was only a truck driver until he thought i was old enough to hear the truth.

 

For our cousins across the pond...Mad Mitch was fighting the war on terron in Aden before the words were even invented...Northumberland Fusileers were ambushed...Crater abandoned, Uk defence ministry and General staff muddled..prevaricated..Paused...Mitch did reccees..Got the pipes up...entered and avenged...took charge...and said bugger the lot of you...A hero to British armed forces and a regiment that will always be held in high esteem by the British armed forces...Anyone who entered Crater that day with Mad Mitch will forever be reverred in forces memories.

 

Referring to the ambush at 1200Hrs.on the 20th June the whole of Aden was in emergency state RED two Landrover's were ambushed by rogue policemen thay were recruited from local tribesmen, but were allied to Arab terrorists. All soldier's were killed except Fusileer Storey, and the vehicles burned. Three attempts were made to retrieve the bodies by armoured cars, but were all beaten back by extremely heavy and accurate fire. At 1600hrs. an amnesty was agreed and an ambulance went to collect the bodies, it even came under fire and had to withdraw having only collected the only living but wounded soldier fusileer Storey, the British army was ordered not to enter Crater again as it was considered that a full scale attack, supported by armour would now be necssary. This would inevitably cause heavy casualties, and the Federal government might well have collapsed. At 2200 hrs on 21st June the armed police arranged the evacuation of the 9 British soldiers, and at 0700 hrs the following morning, a further 3 soldiers from a Roman Catholic school in Crater.
