Sorry Framert, just noticed this. I meant with this ( Fuhrer HQ ) that it´d be very interesting to see how the emotions and atmosphere would change as total victory ( The Russian is dead ) turns into fear of a lost battle during the autumn 1941 period and how Hitler´s manners and attitude towards his generals would change!
Some great choices Freddie! Borodino, Austerlitz, Berlin and Dien Bien Phu. Can watch Mogidishu (SP?) on Black Hawk Down.
Interesting, not alot of Japanese battles mentioned.Coral Sea,Midway? How deafening it must be when a torpedo strikes a ship.
In a morbid sense, I'd have loved to see the execution (and failure) of the Shlieffen (sp?) plan. Also, any three of the battles of attrition in WW1 (Somme, Verdun, Paschendale). And last but not least, I would have liked to see the Americans land and sweep up through southern Italy. DUCE
Good choices all. Just to answer some spelling doubts: </font> Mogadishu</font> Chapultepec</font> Schlieffen Plan</font> Another good one would be Colenso.
Desert Storm PT.1, Night battle.Mostly just to see the firepower!A-10 Warthogs busting open Iraqi tanks with their mini-guns!
I think i'd have to add two more battles to my current list. Kursk, and the Battle for the Seelowe Heights.
Me too. I'd add the Battle of the Boyne,1st July 1690 between William III, Prince of Orange, and James II. This battle was pivotal to British history, and could have gone either way. Because they added 11 days to the calendar in the 18th century to bring Britain in line with Europe, it's now (erroneously) celebrated as the 12th July. I'd also add Bannockburn, 23/24th June 1314, not least because I actually live on the battlefield. Regards, Gordon [ 02. March 2004, 04:25 PM: Message edited by: The_Historian ]
Freddie, I didn't want to be greedy! And there's always Nechtansmere in 685, where the Pictish king Bridei killed his Saxon cousin Ecgfrith, and stopped Northumbrian expansion into Scotland for good. Regards, Gordon [ 03. March 2004, 02:39 AM: Message edited by: The_Historian ]
A good one for me would be Konnigratz in 1866. Probably the biggest battle prior to WW1. Has to be seen.
I would like to walk the battlefield at Kursk the day after[except for the mines]just to see the carnage.Blood&guts aside,I,ve always wanted to see what happens when tanks get hit. Also like to see the damage on the Bismarck before she went down.
I would like to get my vote in for the battle of Assay, 13,000 troops under Wellington take on several times their own number and win! Huzzah!!! [ 07. March 2004, 07:22 PM: Message edited by: Stefan ]
Some other interesting wars: The taking and destruction of Bastille The Trojan war Death of General Custer
STEFAN! I'm appalled you could reply to this thread without saying the Glorious Glosters and the Battle of the Imjin River, Korea 1951.
LOL, good point Greenjacket, UP THE GLOUCESTERS!!! Back to back and all that. For those of you who haven't cottoned on I was born in Gloucester, it is my preferred infantry capbadge for when I finally get into the army [ 16. March 2004, 06:19 PM: Message edited by: Stefan ]
