    Because Bush knows best! ;)

Because these countries mind their own business. In fact these countries have always had close relationships with the middle east ( for the most part ), even if they did not agree with religion, govt. or way of life.....
You dont see al qaeda attcking India even with its friction with Pakistan nor did Osama Bin Laden go after Russia after it withdrew from Afganistan, but intead turned on its allie..

    The question is why?

During the Cold War, the US asked India how is it that the worlds largest Democracy can hold friendy relationship with the evil soviet union. India's response; we are neighbors, it is in the interest of both countries to stay friends... ;)

    That I agree with.

Slon after "being" there my statement still stands all politicians whether for or against need to get on a hot craft and get to the mid-east for a little experience of culture and the truth. As Dave has said it will never happen..........no matter to me I take political talk with a grain of sand stuck between my teeth. I still await my transfer papers back in some not too distant future when this thing escalates and personally even though we have freedom of speech here on the net and we can thank our brothers/sisters in the forces for that as well as our forum WW 2 vets, I can say with truth I really do not give a rats ass what others think concerning the right or the wrongs over in that dry hunk of space unless you have been, seen. and done it.

and to answer your question why ? I think you already know ............ who else has been in everyones backyard since WW2 trying to clean up the world, wouldn't it be just grand having the little scum point fingers and laugh at us stating they took down the great satan as we embark home........they will of course claim victory in their own minds.

Slava, I have to respectfully disagree with you on this. While it may not be necessarily al Qaeda doing the bombing, there are a good many Islamic terrorists setting off bombs in India and other parts of the world. I googled "india islamic terrorist bombing" and got a good long list of recent incidents. If the groups are not part of the the bin Laden's cabal, I am certain that there has to be some interaction, just was there was cooperation between the terrorist groups that plagued Europe in the 70s, such as Red Army Faction and the Baader-Meinhoff Gang.

Erich, I dont think we disagree here ;)

No argument there Jeff, the point that I was trying to make is that India's terrorist attacks are coming from the same country in which it has friction with. No Islamic Jihad is called and supported by the rest of the middle east. Iraq however is a completely different story.... Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Syria, Iran, Algeria, Labanon etc. all have citizens fighting in Iraq.

Afterall look at Russia, terrorist attacks are 90% Chechen, Osama Bin Laden's personal bodyguards are Chechen soldiers, Osama however is not concerned about Russia nor Chechnya, it is the US which he despises.....

This is one of these cases where I dont know if you are serious or being sarcastic!

Hi TA, it already has - yesterday. ;-))

Also, I state that I agree with every word that Erich has posted. I don't know how well some of you guys know him but, I have known him long enough to say that what he says; is the truth.

What bugs me now is, how the hell can Bush be blamed for all the troubles in the world; that Erich kindly posted a link to?

D I have to blame Bush because my car needs repairs? Do I have to blame Bush because my Airconditioner ai not working as well as it could be? Do I blame Bush just because I don't feel like correcting my typing errors? Do we have to blame Bush because its hot n humid in Texas? Is Bush to blame for all the flooding rains that many parts of the USA (and world) have recently had? If so then, I guess that makes President Bush; a God!

Now, if Bush is now a God, why does he not just sweep his hand across the troubled spots world-wide, and put an end to all that Bovine Flatulence? Bush being God, has the power to stop all famine, crime, natural disasters and disease. oh brother, give Bush a break. Now we can just blame all these problems on Chuck Norris? :-D

Maybe instead of rebuilding Iraq's infrastructure, we can take care of our's first.

I don't know much about War. Only what happens in it.
I like to think that the war in the middle east is like Duck Hunt.

We are the hunter, with the big ol' gun. We are shooting at the blasted ducks. But we have gotten to the later levels. The ducks are being tricky. slipping on out. We may get one or too and we always end up running out of ammo!. Sadly, the rest of the world is the damn dog that giggles when we fail.

thats just me summing down such a broad and controversial topic.

Aren't we just trying to make the world a better place? Some people think that too.. but rather go to larger and unorthodox ways to do it. (terrorism) I could be talking a bunch of hibby jibby.

Not to mention that the infrastructure that is being rebuilt by the US is the very same that a few years earlier had been destroyed by the same nation...;)

    I can understand your sentiment.
We could have done the same thing following WWII and very likely sown the seeds of WWIII, as was what was done following the Great War. Instead, the US instituted the reconstruction plans for our former enemies and helped them to rebuild in a way that did not force them back into the political abyss they were in before the war. We also helped some of our former Allies to rebuild damage done by the fighting.
It made good sense because of the distances involved, we had no damage to the country itself from our enemies and came out of WWII in very good economic shape.
If economic support will help in winning the fight, I support it because it doesn't have a human cost involved.

Personally I am not fond of the US foreign assistance programs, especially money given to less than friendly nations, but that is a different discussion and very likely to raise the blood pressure of some in here.

How can you believe in a source that is owned by a trust fund hippie from the 60s and has numerous instances of fabricating stories as well as almost being charged with treason?

Oh that's right it fits your perverted agenda.;)

The public doesn't see the Iraq War as a failure because polls just relay the information the owner desires.

It is the Democrat party, the party of defeat, and their media whores that
see the Iraq war as a failure.

How many successful terrorist attacks have occured on US soil since 911? Given the Bush Admin had only 10 months to undo 8 years of security gutting and military down sizing as well as the short coming of Mr. Bush in not axing and replacing all of Clinton's hacks in government. We can hardly place blame on the Republican Admin for 911.

The problem with Americans is that 1/3 of the population is stupid, and most of the rest apathetic, concerned with what car they drive, how big their house is and what's the latest technological toy they can buy.

Americans have a short memory(911, the Cole, various embassies, and previous wars) many are incorrectly guilt ridden due to religion or cultural background and thankfully there are a few, proud and not so often thanked enough for their service, the military that stand to protect us. An honorable mention to true conservatives, who are trying to keep America from becoming a Third World Country.;)

The problem in this and other countries is the media because the under educated tend to believe everything they see and hear.

What has been acheived in the US? How many would die if a nuke, bio or chem wep went off in a major city? What would happen if the terrorists lob a nuke in the atmosphere(Iranians, North Koreans, or an overthrown Pakistahni Regime) answer the com net would crash along with the market due to em pulse.

So keeping the terrorist end game in Iraq is a most obvious option.

Assistance in money will go away without doing any good, which is why food stamps were started. A card (re loadable now I believe) instead of cash.
Even today, there are places where food cards (and I suspect many more than I've heard of) will buy anything. Not at a 1 to 1 exchange rate, but nevertheless can be used.
    Liquor/drugs/gambling etc....
Unless you create the bridges, buildings, hospitals, water treatment plants, refineries, etc., money alone will not bring the structures to fruition.
There will always be a plethora of reasons why the cash did not/could not arrive on station.
Trust in this area..........is for suckers, who will have that money crashing back down on their heads in all forms of munitions.
The people who need it most, will receive (at best) trickle down benefits.
There is always overhead/administration costs, but in turmoil, that's all there is. Cost.
Help is not always cash, sometimes it's soldiers.
As in the show Blackhawk Down, even though the food arrived, it was being stolen/controlled by yet another seperatist group with military power.
As Adid said (or his henchman, I forget)......Starvation is a weapon, and so is terror !

Welp, at this juncture the US: Can either keep going like they have been and the current administration is likely to do just that. If things improve, as apparently they have to a limited degree per the latest Iraqi progress report, then the Democrats are in a bind being hard against the effort there.
If the Democrats win the Presidency in the next election and hold on to Congress then the dilemma is: If they pull out and Iraq degenerates into chaos they get blamed for "losing the war." If they stay with Bush's current methods or some variant thereof where they leave large numbers of troops in Iraq their base deserts them for not pulling out.
Basically, the Republicans at this point will either succeed or break even with their strategy on Iraq (stay and finish the job however long it takes) while the Democrats are risking a huge loss by theirs. The only way the Democrats can succeed is if they pull out and Iraq does not decline into chaos or a civil war. I am not putting money on that one happening.

(place good posting smilie here reference above)

Well it is interesting to note that since the bombing of the two Japanese cities we have not been at war with Japan or Germany for over 60 years. Damn good in my opinion considering history and in fact they are our Allies, thanks Angela and informed voters.

The use of nukes upsets people at their breakfasts(Zulu)

It isn't an option due to other concerned powers China and Russia who tend to get nervous when atomics are concerned. In addition the use of tactical nukes wouldn't be effective in this spread out battle scenario.

I would think Osama would recall the garlic smell from Afghanistan in the 80s and not want to mess with the Russians.

I like the Russians and Putin now they're rid of communism, I wish the US was on better terms with them.

Osama is afraid of Russia who doesn't have the response restraints(LOAC) the US has and Russia doesn't support Israel which is the primary reason the US is a target for terrorists. Russia proxied Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq and Yemen as well as other terrorist favorable nations. True there are exceptions, Iran but that's because of regime change in 1979 and Saud which is a bi level governed nation by royal family and defacto Islamic cleric were both at one time supported by the US and of course we give billions to Egypt now.

Well I agree, but once you start a project it is always a bad idea to cut and run.

True, if you mean securing our borders from criminaliens. Here is the main criticism of George Bush. The Democrats should love this guy because he certainly spends like a democrat and is actually very liberal in his viewpoints.

Good question, sometimes I surprise myself so much that I'm left flabbergasted and gasping for words!

That raises a question. Who's senior, the POTUS or Chuck Norris? I guess it's Chuck Norris, but I think the Supreme Court hasn't ruled on this one yet.

Wow, a word I wasn't aware of! Welcome to the rarified halls of the creators of the English language :D
