    That's absolutely true-you can do a burn test. I had one done on a LW Officers M-34 cap I once had-done so by three VERY knowledgable collectors who together at that time-had nearly 100 years of collecting experiance between the three. They took a thread from the cap and it passed their expectations perfectly. The only drawback was at worst-it was immediate postwar cap made from wartime materials stock and it's insignia was the real deal. At best though, it was a late war made cap. I traded this away years ago. I almost wish that I had kept it.
