But watched 3 kings and had a change of heart.. Think the guys a good actor now he gets to pick his own movies...Not ww2 I know but Oh brother where art thou....Excellet... If you havent seen 3 kings..give it a go...Ill send you the video rental fee if you dont laugh at least once...
Hi Urgh---reading that a clooney movie can be compared to Kellys Heroes is like watching and hearing someone scraping their fingernails down a blackboard. Orrible mate -- just orrible. (Thats my other British impression) Hi Wilconqr, thanks for seeing my point I agree--doesnt look as if H-wood has much good talent these days. Urgh, clooney got too big for his britches too quickly. I just falt out do not like his crappy attitude. Ive never watched that TV show he used to be in, and ive only seen a few minutes of him in Oceans Eleven. I admit--that movie seemed to be entertaining but, I just cant stand clooney. His fater is curently doing the hosting for classic movies on turner classic movies, and I do like him. His mother was ther famous singer--Rosemary Clooney, and I do like her very much--its a shame that she recently passed away. I dont care what clooneys sexual preferances might be--or what his politics are, but I just cant stand a person with a biggoted attitude as he has. One thing clooney did that got him on my bad side was to make fun of the excellent actor: Charlton Heston, when Heston came out and made it publicly known that he has Alzheimers Disease. clooney made fun of Heston for that--has never apoligized for it--still mocks Heston for something that he (Heston) has no control over, and flat out makes an ass of himself no matter where he goes. Also, I do know that clooney hates Charlton Heston just because Charlton Heston believes in our 2nd Amendment: "The Right To Keep and Bear Arms." Also he hates Heston because Heston is a member of the National Rifle Association. In short, clooney is a disgrace to his parents and to his fans ov which--I will never be a fan of his. Im surprised that clooney hasnt made fun of Charles Bronson and Gregory Peck, as both of them are very ill and Bronson also has Alzheimers Disease. Just my 2 cents worth and will hope that what I typed here will be read with an open mind. Its not made up and has been in the news for several months. Ohh and another thing, I do not like and wiill not support a mere actor that decides it has to spout crap about its views on our leaders, and our Country--like clooney did when it was in Berlin recently--trying to promote its new movie--which I will not see. Now, I am a lover of Hollywood Classic Movies and the Actors and Actresses. I would rather watch an old black/white movie any day any time--over the new junk being made. However, there are a few exceptions. I like new movies too--and some in my opinion do compare with some of the Classic favorites of mine. I was very impressed with the remake of The Four Feathers, I actually like it more than the original. The Count of Monte Cristo, was also another impressive movie. I liked Behind Enemy Lines, and a few other new movies but, the older ones will always be my favorites. The only up and coming newer actors I really like are Jude Law, Tobey Mcguire and Owen Wilson--for example.
? How can anything be compared to ‘Kelly’s Heroes’ It’s a milestone classic in a class of it’s own. It borrows nothing wholesale from any other film, the ‘boy’s own’ adventure plot hangs together and the casting and the character scripting is outstanding. It’s a ‘what if’ film that keeps injecting enough plausible points and technical accuracy to leave a ‘just maybe’ afterthought with you. Oh, and Clooney………….OK, nothing special, maybe better than dime-a-dozen but there’s still thousands? (Did he really think he could take-over The Batman from Keating? ) No.9 ”Well, get the ionosphere the hell off the air!”
Three Kings is a pale imitation of Kelly's Heroes. Courage Under Fire starring Denzel Washington is a better Gulf War film and From Dusk Til Dawn is a better Clooney film.
Absolutely agree with you there, Crapgame...But was Courage Under Fire not with Meg Ryan as well? Saw that about 5 years ago. Can't remember much of it. Am usually very disappointed with 'made up' war movies.
I heard that he hung himself but I cannot find the story. It seems the war in Iraq is no longer headlines. Anybody hear about this?
Hi Nr.9.--thanks for Carroll O'Connors pic--he sure is missed. clooney thinks he is IT when it comes to acting--all do to its huge Ego. I hate to be the bearer of bad news to him but--he sucks. Hi Wilconqr: I would see no problem with a remake of Stalag 17--but ONLY if they picked the correct people for the roles and also not make it a politically correct movie. Who could play William Holdens character of J.J.Sefton? No clue. Who could play the Compound Chief? No Clue. Who would play "The Animal?" No Clue. Who would play "Harry Shapiro?" I think Joe Pesci. Who'd play Peter GrAVES "Security?" a.k.a. The German Spy? Who'd play Duke (Neville Brands caharacter?) Joey? Blondie Petersen? Cookie? more importantly--who would play? Sergeant Schultz? and also Oberst von Scherbach? On the Iraqi propaganda minister--I heard he shot himself.
For the Animal, I choose Keneau Reeves. Donald Sutherland is a hard one to replace but I think envisioning Keneau in "Bill and Ted's ultimate adventure" (or whatever it was called) comes close to the same lingo as what Donald Sutherland used. Don't ya think? [ 18. April 2003, 05:12 PM: Message edited by: PzJgr ]
That's right Stevin. Meg Ryan played the fallen hero in Courage Under Fire. The film had a great cast which also included Matt Damon, Lou Diamond Phillips, Scott Glen, Michael Moriarty and Sean Astin. [ 18. April 2003, 06:15 PM: Message edited by: Crapgame ]
Courage under fire was a terrible movie. One of those feminist war movies that hollywood has to churn out every couple of years to keep the carpet munchers happy. Aa far as a remake of Stalag 17. Edward norton would make a great "holden" Animal- The funny/weird named Jack Black
Hi PzJgr-- Stanislas "Animal" Kasava was played by Robert Strauss in Stalag 17, I think your meaning Reeves for Sutherlands role in Kellys Heroes? He is probably a good choice but, ive never watched him in anything. I hadnt thought about Ed Norton as Sefton? That sounds good to me.
I can go for that one Crapgame....Movies like Coke a Cola tasting are a subjective personal taste. But at least we can agree Three Kings is an imitation even if a pale one in most views...US army, on a money making mission with aid of some enemy at times, bringing in support when needed..Part of basic story line similar.. As to the stars involved and their capablilites I can live with everyones own personal tastes. Some have said on the movie issue that George Clooney is not a nice man...I leave that alone, its the movies that I praise or critisise and the acting involved not the actors own lives outside..I never rated Charlton Heston....Hope Carl..you understand that too...its subjective and very personal stuff..Nothing to do with Nra or outside stuff..but thought his acting in many movies was wooden and not of star quality..but a personal thing. I would not though not watch a movie he was in though, if I didnt like him personally, I wouldnt watch half the stuff I watch if I did that... Besides Hitler and Stalin were not the nicest of guys and we all are still interested, discuss and watch them be it documentary or movie..
It's really a shame that acors and actresses don't just stick to acting. What in the hell makes them such qualified statesmen anyway??? Most of them do not even have a college education and a lot of them do not even have High School diplomas. However, I do believe that it is their right to speak out as anyone else. That is one of the main things so many of us protected by serving our great nation (U.S.A.) in times of war and peace. But they (actors) should also consider the possible repercussions of their speech as well. They have the right to their opinions and we (general public) have the right as to wether or not we will endorse their pusillanimous left-wing stance by seeing their movies. The recent dicision to not allow tim robbins to the Baseball gig was the best national news I've heard in months. This should send a message to all the "crackpots" in hollywood to mind their foolish tounges. Wether or not they have the sense to adhere is another question.
Hi Urgh--I do understand--no problem with an opinion but, when someone like clooney spouts off like it did--that is totally uncalled for. Still--I will be boycotting all clooney projects--at least untill an apology has been made to Charlton Heston--who BTW--I watched him in one of his most famous roles lastnight--in Moses. Hi Wolconqr--I used to like tim robbins and I liked seeing him as that FBI agent turned traitor as that was entertaining but--ill not watch him in any more films. I also never have liked his wife. OH and BTW--the Baseball people made a public apology today to tim robbins--I wish they had not, tim robbins didnt deserve an apology.
