Paul--thank you for the update on those four RKTs passing away. I hope Otto Kumm is feeling better these days? And do you know how well Fritz Darges is doing these days? May Herrn: Frey, Schopfel, Schack and Freytag, all Rest in Peace.
Fritz Darges is doing well at least he was when i last heard from him about a month ago. I am ringing my friend Gerd this weekend so will find out how Otto Kumm is., Paul
Thank you for this good news mate. I'm glad to hear Herr Darges is doing well and hopefully Herr Kumm has recovered very much as well.
That is very sad news about 's Albert Frey, Erich Oberwohrmann, Fritz Schock, Gerhard Schopfel, Gunther Schack and Siegfried Freytag. What is the approx number of RKT's who are still alive? Regards Phil
who really knows especailly from those who do not respond as well as are not part of OdR data base. ~E
still do not think anyone really knows but the OdR if they truly know.... if informative purposes there were : 12,000 killed and m,issing day fighter pilots 2,800 Zerstörer pilots and crewman 3,800 nachtjäger pilots and crewmen. Total losses of Zerstörer's and night fighter a/c were around 6,700 from 60-100% destroyed. Out of the Nachtjagdverbande there were approx. 107 RK winners and above serving in the units. At present maybe 19 members still living and several are no longer corresponding with anyone outside the traditionsverband. ~E
Hi Erich/Timo. Erich, those are sad statistics--so many lost Timo--do you have any more details? If so--please let us--or Paul know. May they Rest In Peace.
Carl,Erich,Timo, From my OdR Contacts ,i think that after so long a life with each other, they chose to go together !! Paul
Thank you Paul. I am so sorry to hear of that happening. It was as I feared--not an accident. I do wish them the best and sure hope they are at peace.
another suck tidbit I must mention..... RK winner and Luftwaffe day fighter ace, Alfred Grislawski passed away a couple of days ago. A very kind and thoughtful man who loved to "tell" his story. Full of good health and easily giving away signed photos and copied documentation to anyone whom would ask. Unfortunately I never was able to correspond with him. thumbs up Alfred ! ~E
Damn....I was just beginning to read more about him recently too and was thinking of contacting him as well. May he Rest in Peace.
I suggest to pick up the Graf-Grislawski book from Eagle-editions by Christer Bergström. My plan after I pick up the Bodenplatte book this winter..... Paul Errass if you see this post I still have your note about the two German pilots but cannot send out any e-mails yet till I get my server squared away.....be patient friend ! ~E
Sounds like a good book--i'll look for it next month--this month I have been taxed on spending way more than I wanted. Paul has the greatest patience there is--it took me almost 3 years to finally get some U 181 pics to him. He never complained. Do you think that our British friends get their great patience because of the Tea they consume? Also--Paul more than deserves a for his patience.
Carl, what will be interesting in that particular book is the info on the very little known JG 50 which both Graf and Grislawski were apart of. As the unit was suppose to hunt down day flying Mossies as well as hunt for US heavy bombers in their Bf 109G's. patience is a viture ~E
No problems Erich, just as and when you can my friend. Carl thanks for your kind words but i've got to disappoint i'm afraid i mostly drink coffee !!!!! Paul
Hi Erich--Paul "E" I will definately take your word on it. When I get out of my financial crunch a bit--im going to be buying books--and with a vengeance. Hi Paul, no problem there--Coffee and Tea both--taste almost alike to me. How about if I send you a large can of Folgers?
no problemo there friend, after p[aying for the overhaul of this PC I will be laying low till December/January I think. Send Paul some Kaffe Sperl or Jacobs ! hope to take care of you Paul end of next week as I cannot access any of the older 150 mails quite yet but will.... ~E
Erich--sound like it to me that you need not only some hot tea, but some Brandy to sweeten it with--because of your struggle with the computer. As for Paul..........A Gormet shop just opened here in CC and I have been wanting to go through it to see what they have--I will bet that that will be the place to go--or maybe to Starbucks--as one just opened here about 2 months ago.
