because the Stellar is usually a high mtn. or altitude bird, in fact not sure if you have the goof off scrub Jays or not ? they have a smooth blue head grey/blue back, noisy as well but no crested crown. we feed those knuckleheads right out of our hands with un-salted peanuts, aka natural

Yeah, their heads were funny looking. Real noisy. Very beautiful...blue, with their upper body/head being mostly black. Easily mistaken for bluejay i think.

because THEY ARE in the jay Family. think you guys are to used to the Eastern Blue Jay with crest, white and blue markings, lets just say the Stellar is the cousin on the west coast. also Muss you probably saw mountain Jays and clarks nutcrackers as well or at least you should robbing visitors of their food right off the picnic tables as well as going for the the pine nuts/seeds in the trees, the Clarks Nut-jobs are really noisy as well and are pretty bloody funny in their antics - pretty darn smart too

that is your "Eastern" Blue Jay, usually in the states this is the standard boy seen grabbing whatever he/she can find in the feeders and making a raucous chasing other smaller song birds off so they can munch. Orioles should be coming around soon in my spot as the cherries are close to being ripe. The area that Muss visited is huge with the monster Lake and both sides, Cali and Nevada have different landscapes and different flora/fauna. The area is rich in history as well and I have contemplated seriously from time to time to move back to that region.

I've been out there quite a bit for work, couple years ago, and it is really pretty out there! I'd like to take a personal trip to take some time and really look around!

my suggestion is to continue south on Hwy # 395 looking towards your right - west and note the immense changes in the scenery, stuff to knock your socks off and it gets forever more rugged the farther south you go - my old home. ever see red aspen leaves before ? yes in the area in October, pretty wild in the wet drainages, Tahoe and the whole higher altitude region(s), great time to come, the tourists have packed their bags, the locals are getting their homes ready for the winter which can come anytime in September/October and dump ~ the whole scenic area is quite
