I am looking for any information I can find about an Uncle of mine, Henry Arnold Enger, who was a Veteran of WWII. I don't have much to go on and he has no family members left I can ask. I do know that he was from Emmetsburg, Iowa, that he was a medic in Patton's IIIrd Army in Belgium. He trained at Camp Bowie, near Brownwood, Texas/ I suspect that he was in the 113th Cavalry, but can't confirm it. Any help or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Stan41

Stan41, A quick search at Ancestry.Com shows Uncle Henry was born 5 May, 1913 and died 29 April 1981.
He entered the Army 18 August 1942 and was discharged on 21 October 1945. His SSA# was 483-28-5819.
Since he left the military more than 62 years ago his records are archived and you don't need to be a next of kin to get his records. Next of kin is listed as parents, siblings and unmarried widow. You will be asked to pay for the copies, however (if they didn't burn in the fire in 1973.) Check out this link. Stan, you will need to complete Standard Form 180 in order to request your uncle's Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). As Buten42 said, it has been more than 62 years since his separation, so his records are "Archival" which means anyone can request them. Here is a more direct link:

If your uncle was a member of the VFW or American Legion, you could try contacting them. They may be able to help out. Also the local historical society where he lived may be of some help. I found quite a bit of info on my great uncles in clippings from their home town newspaper. Good luck with your search!
