If you get a chance, scroll up to post #51 and watch that Nova program that "mcoffee" posted. It contains some very well thought out "suppositions", and also has a section which shows an instructor who trains on that Air Bus model, recovering from pitot tube freeze over, and computer "auto-pilot" shut-down. He recovers by doing what may have seem counter-intuitive to the pilots in the Air France jet.

I just read that the data on the "black boxes" has been successfully transfered out of both of them and safely moved to a mainframe (or something). The technicians at the lab have now shortened the date they believe they will be able release the information. June or July now if I remember correctly.

Hope this solves the problem/mystery and allows other pilots to be trained as to how to deal with a situation like this should it arise again.

Just heard about it on the news too. Apparently they will be able to save both data bases

French investigators: Pilots and faulty equipment caused 2009 Air France crash | Fox News

A combination of faulty sensors and mistakes by inadequately trained pilots caused an Air France jet to plunge into the Atlantic Ocean in 2009, killing all 228 people aboard in the airline's deadliest ever crash, French investigators said Thursday.

Investigators are urging better instruction for pilots on flying manually at high altitudes and stricter plane certification rules as a result of a three-year investigation into what happened to Flight 447.

Airbus, manufacturer of the A330 plane, said in a statement that it is working to improve speed sensors known as pilot tubes and making other efforts to avoid future such accidents. Air France stressed the equipment troubles and insisted the pilots "acted in line with the information provided by the cockpit instruments and systems. .... The reading of the various data did not enable them to apply the appropriate action."

Blimey...the 330 is the new Nato refueller and trooper isn't it...known as the voyager in RAF service....Can't refuel one of our two types of aircraft thanks to incompetant ....corrupt... folk as far as I'm concerned..Should be ok with Typhoon though...the drogues don't fit...so as long as we only have to do cap and no bombing the RAF are sorted for the future...
