I don't quite follow, either. If the Panzer IV being destroyed was the cause of the Panther, then...you could really apply that rationale to any tank, because obsoletion tends to do bad things to tanks. After all, if there was a tank design that wasn't being destroyed, there would never be any needs for upgrades, right?
But there are very few axis ones !!!! Italy for example had only one tank producer (Ansaldo) so there are no competituions with "unknown loosers". This is more for the "fun factor" than in the hope nobody will recognize it View attachment 6115
Had to look up what an M39 was and it's not it. But it's from the same country and roughly time period as well....... so definetly not Italian.
Well, it looks independently developed, not off of a tank chassis...is it a utility vehicle like the M39? Or is it just missing a gun?
I's definetly a combat not a utility vehicle and it's missing a lot more than the gun! But it was designed to look like that like that though it would look a lot different (and definetly more battlewothy) once it got to the fire zone.
Yes we already agreed it's US, bigger than a RAM, I wouldn't bet on it but the two weel assemblies look a lot like HVSS so that would make it 25% longer than an M4.
You straddled the target but didn't hit it yet HINT: Don't know if this will help or send you completely "off track" but think of Tiger I and railway cars .....
the American T28 Super Heavy Tank has the same track as your picture, but it's a double track on each side. i doubt that's it, but thought i'd throw that out there.
