Heres some background about me. I've been reading about the world wars since I was 10 or 11 years old, and I got serious about the topic when I was 14 or so. I've read dozens upon dozens of WW2 books, and have an inexhaustible thirst for knowledge about it. The second world war was such an extreme and complex event that it deserves the utmost research. I've never served in the military, but both my grandfathers did (they were WW2 veterans). These ongoing studys of mine are a way of paying homage to them. Among other things, I am interested in historical re-enactment (albeit of a somewhat unusual kind): I like to have modern militarys trade places with themselves in the past. In other words, I will imagine the american army of 2015 fighting on the beachs of normandy or in the falaise pocket. This is an excellent way to check how armed forces have evolved over the course of decades, and its very entertaining to boot. You'll probably see me in the alternate history threads. Cheers!
Nice way to begin. Nicely done. Welcome! There is an advanced search function / button... completely invisible here. Otto, our administrator / owner is flummoxed on how to fix it. At the top right (of our Commonwealth and USA focused forum here on ww2f.com) you will see: At the top right of our sister forum - United Kingdom Focused at http://ww2talk.com You will see a "Star" shaped button right to the right of the "Search" function. If you click on where the "Star" Button should be here on ww2f.com you will get to our advanced search function that can get really good results for your searches.
Welcome to the site, jump in and mix it up. Nothing flumoxing about the advanced search function. We are moving off this platform soon, and its not worth fixing the mass of niggling issues that IPB (Invision Power Board) presents us with. As for our sister site, it is actually WW2Talk.com rather than WW2T.com. I've corrected Fred's post.
