    Kwaqu,

Why don´t you look into the mirror first or are you too righteous to do that? I don´t mind you having 600 postings elsewhere but as you seem to be sending insults only here maybe you should stay on that other forums? Right?

Such a bunch of ignorants we are!

Erich doesn't know anything about the Luftwaffe, Martin of the RAF, Carl nothing concerning militaria, Kai a damn about Finland, AndyW of 'Barbarossa', etc.

Fried--just ignore it, it's just trying to cause trouble.

Also, if you saud day was bright and night was dark--it would still disagree with you though your facts are totally correct.

This is akin to: Black Pot to Black Kettle: "Your Black."

    Just 2 remarks:

1.) Coming to a board, and greeting the „old boys“ with telling „us“ all that we’re all stupid is generally not a good idea to have a decent discussion or to be accepted as serious discussion partner (at least to me).

2.) It’s just bad timing that so many seemingly Polish contributors have found the way to this board, and I’m afraid it seems that the obvious difficulty of ONE of them in maintaining the “basic" discussion rules among adult and civilized people is shining a bit on them others, too – which is completely unjustified from us snobby “old boys”, I’d like to say.

Welcome to Wojtix and Falcon and thanks for finding the way to this board.

    Cheers,

I think there´s enough Polish material now available for the newcomers to answer IN DETAIL. It´s time to show how much they really know of their past and stop the kindergarten stuff!

    ;)

At any rate, the Poles were and still are--tough soldiers. Heck--they did give the Germans a "bloody nose."

Heh heh, I met this guy who was a Polish Paratrooper, who after being freed from a Soviet Gulag, immigrated here to the USA.

This ex-Para--really hated the Soviets. Do you want to guess why he spent 7 years in a Gulag for?

He was on a training exercise--overseen by the Russians. On his aircraft, the Jumpmaster was a Russian who hated Poles.

The Russian Jumpmaster was an Officer.

OK, The guy I know--said that there was somekind of a problem to do with his buddies parachute and that he said he should not be allowed to jump. The Russian Officer said nothing was wrong with the way the chute was packed and forced this other guy to jump.

The guy jumped--chute was somehow entangled and he fell to his death.

After the flight was over and they were all back at base--the Polish Para I know--walked up to that Russian Officer and beat the hell out of him. He in turn was arrested and sentenced to 7 years in a Soviet Gulag.

He was asked if the 7 yrs was worth it, and he said it definately was.

Anyway, this really has nothing to do with the thread but, thought I would share that memory with you.

By the way, said ex-Para passed away a few years ago. He is buried in a paupers cemetary in Robstown. :-(

Ok. small competition - give me a link to site where I can find a photo or movie showing Polish cavalrymen attacking tanks with sabres and lances!
Think for a moment - it doesn't hurt-lol. Calvary in the prewar Polish Army was an elite force. Most of soldiers were well educated. Do you think reasonable man would attack tank with sabre ??? Rofl.

Ok show me one photo, one proof. All I hear 'one man told me..' , 'my grandpa told me', and such stuff. Or saw in some Discovery junky documentary Polish calvary attacked tanks, and first charging calvary, next tanks but not at same time.

BTW. Germans army had in 1939 more horses than Polish. Not to mention Russians. And Anybody knows what was the "Ur" or full name "Urugwaj" rifle... But still same story, Polish brave but stupid calvarymen attacks tanks - I WANT TO SEE IT!!!

Fred, no one cares if you believe it or not. Those suicide charges of the cavalry did happen and are stated in many sources. Many members of this forum know that.

And no one said Polish cavalrymen were stupid. They did it because it was their last way of fighting the Germans.

By the way, Germany might have used more horses, but all of them in transport rôles, not as cavalry units as in WWI.

Unfortunately, genuine battlefield film and photos from many famous WW2 engagements are non-existent.

With regard to Polish cavalry, one of the main cited sources has been Guderian's memoir, which, on p.72 of the UK edition ( 1952 ), refers to :

'On the 3rd of September the 23rd Infantry Division .. was committed between the 3rd Panzer Division...amd the 20th ( motorised ) Infantry Division; by this manoeuvre we succeeded in totally encircling the enemy on our front in the wooded country north of Schwetz and west of Graudenz. The Polish Pomorsky Cavalry Brigade...had charged ( our tanks ) with swords and lances and had suffered tremendous losses'.

As with any memoir, I have no way of knowing how accurate this is.

Nice way of saying "hello" to the new guy on forum - I am happy, either  .
Well, I think you all making one logical mistake. From one side you see charging calvary from the other tanks...and infrantry. You should have in memory that tanks very rarely were used alone. From many reasons, tanks were the most effective when combined with infrantry (motorized preferably). So, in cases you refered to, charge was against infrantry not tanks.

Put yourself in position of such calvarymen - no matter how desperate you are, you attack tank with lance or sabre. So you are counting on, what? Choping the turret off or what? Be resonable! One more time I am telling you calvary weren't consisted of conscripts. They were mostly professional soldiers (at least all of oficers). So you are telling me right now, they never had seen a tank before. Hadn't they been aware that its imposible to destroy tank with a lance?

    Best regards!

PS You telling me there are not such photo or movie. Wonder why, many Germans and Polish soldiers had a camera. You can find photos of almost all (even war crimes) and you are telling me nobody took a photo when calvaryman hitting a steel tank with sabre... :D Noone, never, lol, such photo would be extremely rare and could be sold at solid price so somebody must have came forward...

Now you are making assumptions. Nobody knows what was the reason for such an attack. Do you not know of the human wave attacks used by the Russians? If you were a Russian infantryman and was asked to attack with only some clips but no rifle. Would you advance? Every country and I mean every country has given an order to their troops to fight a senseless fight. Being reasonable is a luxury the foot soldier does not enjoy.
