“If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear a hundred battles. If you know yourself and not the enemy, for every victory you will suffer a defeat. If you know neither yourself nor the enemy, you are a fool and will meet defeat in every battle.”

Although our intellect always longs for clarity and certainty, our nature often finds uncertainty fascinating.

"Hell, let’s have the guts to let the sons of bitches go to Paris. Then we’ll really cut ‘em off and chew ‘em up.”

Paris??? Did he really say Paris?? Sorry, don't want to knock a hero, but why would he think Paris?? What gain could be had from going to Paris...except for the obvious...?

Guess it was just a matter of speech...righ!?

(sorry Kai, don't mean to turn this thing OT... ;) )

I don´t think the Germans had the offensive power to go that far....I guess Patton just thought they should let the main force enter deep and then they´d cut the neck of the attack and Germans would lose all their men and vehicles for good...like they actually did...

That's right - I think Patton went on to say : 'This time he's put his head in the meatgrinder - and I'm holding the handle !'

At least once Hitler did not have total knowledge on production facts and figures:

Anecdote about Galland and Speer being dressed down by Hitler, who orders all fighter aircraft production cancelled and the material used for FLAK cannon production. As soon as Speer and Galland are alone, Speer turns to Galland and says {roughly), "Dont worry, you cannot make cannon out of aluminum. When the Führer calms down I will explain this to him and tell him to increase FLAK production out of Locomotive production."

    ;)
