I have a rant from something I did this weekend. I destroyed a book!!!! And I am so mad at myself!!!!!
I bought the book “The Last Battle” by Cornelius Ryan for a buck a few weeks ago at the used book sale. I don’t know diddly about the battle of Berlin, so I thought this was a good book to invest in.
I get home, open the book up, and wow!!!! IT SMELLS LIKE MOTHBALLS!!! BAD!!!!
So, I ask around for suggestions how to get the smell out. The secretary at my work suggested soaking a towel with Fabreez, then wrapping the book in it and putting it in a bag to sit.
We’ll, that only help in regards to making the dust jacket more bearable to be around. The inside of the book still was pretty ripe.
My wife googled the problem and came across the suggestion to put backing soda in the book and putting it somewhere where it is hot and let it sit.
I thought that was a great idea, but I was wrong. After a day, I took the book out, and tried to get out all the powder. The pages would not close!!! The powder had got wedged between the pages close to the spine. I went through every page and tried to wipe and blow the stuff out, but after that, I still could not close the book.
I then let the book drop lengthwise on the floor, and that got some powder out, but in doing so, being an older book, I ripped the binding away from the spine.
Now the book not only smells horrible, but it is falling apart and won’t close. I finally threw it in the trash!
What a fail!!!!!!

 

It does hurt Slipdigit. I try to respect my books, and I never throw them away if I can possibly avoid it.

I think I might try taking some of the pictures and maps out of the book just to keep.

I'm hoping to find another copy of the book at the same book sale.

So, I have something I want to rant about.
My wife works for the Human Services department where I live. We carpool, so I usually drop her off, go to work, and then pick her up after work. I wait 30 minutes in the parking lot for her to get off of work, and in the meantime I usually sit and read a WWII book of some sort.
Let me say first that I believe in helping people who really truly need it. This is especially true for the elderly, who I see walking into that place who truly do need a helping hand.
But lately I’m really trying to stop looking at people walking in her office, because it is affecting my blood pressure!!!
Like the other day when I saw a Chevy Suburban in the parking lot. It was all decked out, chrome everywhere, tires as tall as a cow, and the inside of this thing was upholstered in leopard print!!! I’m not kidding you; the fat bald tattooed guy in this thing probably pays more on this thing per month than my mortgage!!!!! And he’s getting food stamps?
I know…. that guy could have lost his job, or maybe he’s in the process of selling the thing. Sure, anything’s possible I guess. It’s hard to dismiss this after seeing so many Escalades over the last few months. But that isn’t the only thing I see while I’m waiting!!!
Almost every day (and I’m not exaggerating), I have to dodge dirty diapers to pull into a parking space. Seriously, you filthy people!! Have some self respect! Have some respect for a place trying to help you! There is nothing dishonorable about being poor (heck, I was poor growing up), just don’t be trashy!
Yesterday, I was really mad yet again because of litter. This time, I parked next to ahalf eaten KFC dinner plate. I hate hate hate wasting food!!!! The thought of this person getting assistance while throwing this food away makes me boil with rage.
Furthermore, you cannot purchase prepared food with food stamps. So, this meal means that they have a little money. I also see many clients go into the office with large sonic cups! I ask you, how can this system go on like this? My wife said once, we should give up, have ten kids, and live off the system like so many others!
